L.A.’s Five Four has released their new Summer 2009 lookbook. Photographer Marco Bollinger captured the new clothing beautifully, mixed with Mosley Tribes eye wear and Five Four Partner Andres Izquieta’s modest shoe collection. The collection is a clean, well-cut take on summer clothing with a mix of bright solid colors and lightweight materials. Vests, lightweight spring jackets, button downs and shorts are all well represented in the full collection of warm weather garments. Five Four creators Andres Izquieta and Dee Murthy met at USC and have developed the brand from a college dorm room in 2001 to a full collection with over 150 styles per season.

Brothers Summer 2009 – Style Guide

brothers-ss09-front

Swedish label Brothers wants to make sure you stay out of the tempting summer style rut of a t-shirt and shorts, all day, everyday. In doing so, they present their Style Guide, which provides enough looks to keep you looking fresh, whether you are “on the terrace in town or at sea.” As summer is an appropriate season to dress in relaxed, more casual attire, the options here don’t get too formal. There is a wide assortment of fitted blazers, that can be dressed up with a tie and corresponding suit pants, or down with an open collar, shorts and tennis shoes. Brothers is also a proponent of the summer scarf and the harder-to-pull-off ascot, here worn to give some extra punch to a plaid Western shirt. Classic polos feature a ship’s steering wheel embroidered on the chest, and aviators, the warm weather staple, are oversized and dark-tinted. The brand even allows some t-shirts to slip in toward the back. For a closer look at the Style Guide, see more pictures after the jump. Don’t forget your pocket square.

Issey Miyake Trapezoid AL

issey-miyake-trapezoidal-front

Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake, known for his technology-driven clothing designs and fragrances, presents to us his new line of watches. Entitled ‘Trapezoid Al’, the 82 gram timepieces are the result of a collaboration between Miyake and industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa. When asked about the concept of the watches, Fukasawa explains: “As the name “TRAPEZOID” suggests, I first had the image of a trapezoid form in rotation. So, the bezel is cut steeply, and a tachymeter is provided on it. Numbers are proportioned like speed limits painted on a road surface – stretched in height to be readable normally when viewed from the front, despite their steep angles around the circumference.”

The Trapezoid Al contains many features, including a chronological face that looks like a dashboard, urethane straps with a two-hinge clasp that is easily adjustable for length, and durable stainless steel used for the winding crown, operational buttons and the back cover, ensuring resistance to abrasion for long life.

Available in four different colourways with matching straps (olive green, blue, red, and natural grey), specs for the timepiece include a two-year battery life, water resistance up to 5 bar, and a case size with a diameter of 43.4mm (thickness 12.1mm).

Sometimes, you don’t need to try to reinvent the wheel. Brooklyn-based label Left Field, a huge hit in Japan, seems to know just that, as they prove with their Preppy Shorts. Available in both blue chambray and a brighter plaid variety, the cotton shorts are the type of hassle-free clothing made for summer. Like all Left Field clothes, these vintage-inspired pieces are proudly handmade in the USA. Despite their simplicity, they do sport some interesting design details, like a subtle plaid-lined pocket on the chambray model. For more of the collection from Left Field, visit Uncle Sam.

People’s Market Autumn/Winter 2009 Preview

People’s Market – Autumn/Winter 2009
peoples-market-main

Established in 2002, People’s Market is an unmistakably English label, and its clientele of stars from across the pond would attest to that; designs have been spotted on Robbie Williams, the Klaxons and the Mystery Jets. The Autumn/Winter 2009 collection continues on in that vein, with designer Dexter Wong offering up skinny jeans, neckwear and enough quirky details to keep things interesting. A shearling jacket adapts the streetwear trend of zipping up through the hood, and another fur-lined shawl-neck cardigan has a fair isle pattern wrapping the sleeves. The line also features some simple button-downs, scarves, screen-printed tees and an iconic baseball jacket.
