Public School – Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

Public School employ a dark theme as they release their latest lookbook unveiling their spring 2010 collection. The New York brand, who base each of their designs on an imaginary muse/street-hustler called ‘Eddie Red’, draw inspiration for their newest lineup from novelist Ralph Ellison’s acclaimed novel ‘Invisible Man’, and the collection is a reflection of the hostile streets of New York City, and a need for toughness and anonymity to survive. Rugged leather jackets make up several of the lineup’s key pieces, and Public School also boast several impressive knitwear and fitted shirts and trousers for a well-rounded look that is sure to turn a few heads come springtime.

Kitsune – Fall/Winter 2009 Feature from Honeyee

Kitsune’s Fall and Winter 2009 collection is all the french coolness we’ve come to expect from them and with every successive season they’re starting to look more akin to A.P.C. than Milkcrate these days. The feature from Honeyee, entitled “nouveau classique” exhibits the calm cool stylings I speak of. Each one of these pieces would be perfectly at home on the shoulders of an art school existentialist with a smoldering cigarette. The varsity jacket and wool military jacket are perfect for the men, and for the women folk that blazer with the white lining on the pockets makes me want to put a ring on it. As much as I hate to admit those french folk still got it. View the feature at Honeyee.

Extremely functional and serious sportswear that doesn’t compromise aesthetics is what Aether gives here. I wouldn’t head north this winter without something by Aether in my duffel bag nor would I suggest you go out in the snow without them either. You will freeze. Not to mention you can bring your iphone and put it in one of the custom iphone pockets they included in their jackets so you can bring the new Slum Village record to the glaciers.

Penfield Knitted Sweaters

Sweaters are a definite staple for the Fall months. For some, when it comes to sweaters, comfort is paramount to style because most knitted options will either be to bulky, too itchy, too soft, or too warm. Penfield has the right balance with their knitted pieces for this season. Made from 100% Shetland wool, The Maine shawl neck sweater features a bold snowflake front pattern with knitted sleeves. The Kaya, a more familiar crew neck style also features the same patterns and knitted sleeve details. Both sweaters are available in navy or grey at Penfield. Kaya ($97) or Maine ($110)

Riviera Club Menswear – Spring/Summer 2010

Inspired by the life and times of international playboy and surfing legend Bunker Spreckels, who as stepson
of Clark Gable inherited a massive fortune and spent the rest of his life traveling and partying until his untimely death at age 27 is the Spring and Summer Collection of upstart Santa Monica, California brand Riviera Club.
The clothes are classic west coast beach culture casual and prove that the world doesn’t need Hollister, American Eagle and their clones to capture the free spirit of California youth in the golden age of the 60s and 70s. Standout items like easy-fit chinos, henley tops, faded t-shirts and baja style ponchos assure that Riviera Club has a bright future ahead, having already been picked up by retailers like Barneys Japan and Fred Segal Los Angeles.
