God Save the King
Photographed by Cameron Krone and edited by Michael Bargo, “God Save The King” is a tribute to the dapper dandy in all of us featuring the clothes of Tom Ford worn by David Fair. The juxtaposition of African tribal scarves and necklaces with the hyper stylish well tailored formalwear of Ford is very current and cool and the photos are styled beautifully. The thematic element of the paper crown ties the project together to make one of our favorite photo editorials we’ve seen in the past few weeks.

Dave’s Quality Meats – Autumn/Winter 2009
Expanding beyond their skateboarding roots, New York brand Dave’s Quality Meats present a well-rounded array of streetwear through images from their latest lookbook. Photographed by skater Tony Jordan, DQM’s lookbook is set in the great outdoors, reflecting on the casual nature of their fall lineup. Staying true to their roots, the retailer-turned-brand’s fall collection features several work-wear jackets, flannel and checkered long-sleeve shirts, and headwear such as different coloured hats and woollen beanies.

Industrial Revolution Editorial for Details
Three-piece suits have never looked cooler in ‘Industrial Revolution’, an editorial photographed by Roger Deckker for the October issue of Details magazine. Set in a backdrop of factories and run-down alleys, models Vincent Lacrocq, Dennis Johnson and James Neate sport various suits, including woollen and tweed, all with a vintage, retro style. Perfect for looking like a million dollars for the fall season.

Staple – Fall/Winter 2009 Lookbook
New York-based design label Staple have released their new lookbook for their fall/winter collection. Exploring the theme of community, with the lineup called ‘Community Works’, Staple feature a solid and clean range of outerwear, shirts, denim, corduroys, chinos, knitwear, sweatshirts and accessories, which also include collaborations with Kangol and Penfield. Going back to the community theme, the models featured on Staple’s lookbook are local voluntary community workers, and have also conducted a short interview with them, a unique feature rarely seen in other labels’ lookbooks.

Aekae SIRE Sunglasses
Design studio Aekae, based in London and Zurich, have released a collection of glasses hand-crafted from natural water buffalo horns. The eyewear range, entitled SIRE, consists of three pairs of correctional frames and three pairs of sunglasses, with each piece made from several thin layers of horn. In a collaboration with eyewear manufacturers Swisshorn Eyewear, Aekae’s exquisite SIRE glasses are currently being displayed at the SILMO Eyewear and Optics Exhibition in Paris.

Insight – Meridian Meltdown Autumn/Winter 2009 Lookbook
This collection doesn’t have the far fetched overly futuristic design of other labels or clothing collections. Instead, Insight opts for a more comfortable contemporary appeal; namely “clean urban”. What’s noticeable is that they seem to love straight leg pants, and they do so while showcasing this love with a variety of boots & sneakers. They keep it light on outer wear by including mid to light weight hoodies, jackets and thin sweaters but make up for that with an abundance of accessories.

Beams – Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection
Beams’ 2009 Autumn/Winter Collection is another entry into the canon of Japanese brands adapting the American look–almost always in either trad or boyish fashion. This contribution leans towards the boyish, adding love-it-or-hate-it updates (the drop-crotch) along with 1980-ish callbacks (the nylon jacket). Because of this, the collection manages to be both deliciously understated and simultaneously fashion-forward.

Jack Spade Holiday 2009 Lookbook
Perhaps more so than any recent collection reviewed on SwipeLife, one could easily create an entire wardrobe out of Jack Spade’s Holiday 2009 collection–right down to the wool mittens. In traditional Jack Spade fashion, the pieces here are spot-on interpretations of American classics, particularly with the perfectly chosen lining in a toggle coat, the correct size and coloration of a plaid button down, and the subtle change of weave in a shawl-collar sweater that would make Jim Thorpe proud. Of course, being Jack Spade, the collection also has its I-never-knew-I-needed-this-but-now-I-couldn’t-possibly-live-without-it moments–especially the heather gray backpack (with tan leather reinforcing), the sporty college stripe gloves and a USA wool hood that makes you wish to be a kid again. Available in November from Jack Spade.
