A.P.C Madras Collection Spring/Summer 2009

apc-2009-ss-madras-collection-main

Parisian brand A.P.C. has released a capsule collection called Madras for Spring. Light weight knits, polo’s, bermuda shorts, and wovens are all represented. Far from over done as the name would suggest, only one top and pair of swim trunks are actually designed in the popular check print. A.P.C.’s version of madras is actually a great modern take on the classically preppy pattern. Navy blue, khaki, orange, and cream make up the collection’s color pallet. With simple stripes and lines on the shirting and solid bottoms, these pieces will extend easily through the spring into the summer season.

Devotees of labels like Filippa K and J. Lindeberg have been singing the praises of Scandanavian style for years. Another brand out of Sweden, Hope Stockholm, is continuing that legacy and winning over new fans worldwide. Founded in 2001 by Stefan Soderberg and Ann Ringstrand, Hope offers a full range of men’s and women’s shoes, clothing and accessories. Their Spring/Summer 09 menswear collection is something of a study in contrasts in tailoring and color palette. Muted grays, whites and blacks are set off with turquoise trousers and purple sweaters. Clean, crisply tailored jackets and shorts are complemented by relaxed, wide-cut tees and cardigans. As with many other labels this season, Hope offers up several updated variations on the trench coat. Check out the patterned Inspector Coat if you want to stand out from the crowd. For those not lucky enough to live in Sweden, the Hope E-Shop ships anywhere in the EU and select merchandise is available in boutiques across the globe.

2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Fred Perry, tennis champ and namesake of the venerable British label. To mark the occasion, Fred Perry is celebrating in its custom style, with the release of a collection of 100th Anniversary Polos. These shirts are the latest in a string of recent special edition polos, including collaborations with Raf Simons and Comme des Garcons. The look is similar to the classic design that has become the brand’s signature: knitted cotton pique polos in black, blue or white, with contrast trim in navy, red, green and champagne. The notable difference here that sets these apart from the rest is an oversized laurel leaf logo, embroidered above a 100 to mark the milestone. The shirt retails for $95, at select boutiques nationwide.

SOPHNET Spring 2009

sophmain

Japanese brand SOPHNET’s latest spring collection continues to balance the contrasting styles of casual streetwear and resort ready apparel. Founded in 1998 by Hirofumi Kiyonaga, their aim of creating functional casual clothing under the concept of minimal design has paid off dividends here. Their signature use of oriental flower and leaf prints smoothly shift into a colour palette which is a bit more mellow and subtle than in previous collections, but still retains that ‘SOPH’ feel to it, with classic garments and simple layering throughout.
