Good Ol’ & Co. – Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

good-ol-co-main

Japanese label Good Ol’ & Co. is a combination of workwear and outdoor inspired garments. There’s also a certain traditional aesthetic to their pieces which is exhibited in their Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook. Comparable to the likes of Engineered Garments, Good Ol’ & Co. puts out a collection that include old dobby shirts, baker pants, fatigue print garments, and more. Some prints are truly unique such as aloha prints, shell prints, fatigues, and animal, but are subtle enough as to not make them too dominant.

kris-van-assche-main

Kris Van Assche’s dark color palettes are nothing new and the continuation from his Dior designs to his own label gives us a unique view of the designer’s vision for Fall. It’s not easy designing an entire collection with just a few colors in mind, but the way Assche manipulates fabrics such as see through materials, added trims, and drape features gives fans a range that’s versatile mixed with a bit of the avant garde.

Denim Debate

denimdebate-image

The new Denim Debate site hopes to unveil some truths about high-end denim quality. A collective of bloggers, store owners and stylish associates have come together in a challenge of sorts to compare their respective brand of jeans by chronicling its life from purchase to alteration to first wash and to that “perfectly worn-in” look.

A long and diverse list of denim lines are represented on the site including The Flat Head, Studio D’Artisan, Kicking Mule Workshop, Levi’s Vintage, Rising Sun, 3Sixteen, APC, Nom de Guerre, Self Edge and much much more.

Each contributor documents the progress of their denim with regularly updated posts that will uncover methods of the wear process, the various fits for body types, color fade and several other elements that attribute to denim’s character.

This project is encouraged to be interactive with the readers which will enable them to comment on preferences and share their own denim experiences. All parties gain to learn something through this effort.

So bookmark the Denim Debate, and check out this impressive roster of enthusiasts, converts and overall passionate students of denim. I’m a proud participant of this project, and I’m sure you’ll recognize some other faces as well.

Note: my prized Self Edge x Real Japan Blues will prove to be a standout.

Standard California – Check Light Flannel Shirt

standardcalif-lightflannel-

Not all flannel shirts should have that heavy winter/workwear appearance. Standard California gives us an alternative to the ever-popular cold-season item with their check light flannel. The shirt comes a little short above the waist, and is made from a softer fabric. It’s a great option as the weather moves a bit more towards Spring. It is available in blue and brown at Standard California.

Chauncey – Fall/Winter 2010 Lookbook

Chauncey-Fall-Winter-2010-1

Brussels-based menswear label, Chauncey’s philosophy stems from the traditions and exceptional quality of European craftsmanship. It leans towards the modern by relying upon extreme creativity and precision by using high quality yarns and manufacturers. According to Chancey, the line is meant for the “elegant gentleman traveler” look with a slice of Belgian surrealism. For Fall/Winter 2010, look to the brand to live up to its philosophies with a range consisting of simplistic knits, scarves, tops, and trousers. There’s a quiet ambiance to the range which I’m sure some of the more humble fashionable types will appreciate.

J.Lindeberg – Autumn/Winter 2010 “The True North” Collection

jlindenberg-main

J.Lindeberg calls their Autumn/Winter 2010 range, The True North Collection. The line is very much in tuned with the aesthetics the brand has always been known for. Simple, yet very disciplined looks come to mind as the collection gains much of its inspiration from militaristic and hunting cultures. It speaks volumes about the craftsmanship and the quality of the pieces as it gives way for a sensible approach on such rugged influences.
