Steven Alan – Autumn/Winter 2009

Urban and casually dressy, Steven Alan’s menswear offers clothing that looks put together without being too fussy, an “artfully disheveled” look that so many city dwellers strive to maintain. The Autumn/Winter 2009 collection delivers more in the way of plaid shirts, tweed blazers and Alan’s trademark rumpled buttondowns. Almost as important as the clothing is the way it is worn, with consideration toward how individual pieces are put together. Take, for example, a bowtie worn under a zip-front sweater, or a v-neck over an untucked plaid shirt. Those combinations give off the sort of nonchalance that the clothing suggests. There are several Steven Alan boutiques in New York and California, carrying SA exclusives and other items, such as Randolph Engineering sunglasses. You can also visit the Steven Alan online shop, here.

Double Crown, New York

Tucked in a corner of the East Village Manhattan, Double Crown is a fresh establishment celebrating the 19th century British presence in the countries of the Far East and South Asia. Super designers AvroKo blessed the restaurant/lounge with classic colonial style and a menu filled with an array of ecclectic dishes such as Lamb and Cashew meatballs and Tandoori marinated Foie Gras with Earl Gray prunes. The cocktail director, Brian McGrory, has compiled a drink menu that specializes in vodkas and gins which can be topped with various preserves such as cranberry, and bramley apple; all of which are made on the premises. At Vermilion
At Vermilion is a new Indian-Latin restaurant in the Lexington-and-40’s area of New York. A branch of the critically-acclaimed Chicago restaurant of the same name, this new dining spot is sure to be a must try for anyone into Indian-Fusion cuisine. The minimalist aesthetics of the place is inspired by muted hues of black, white, and gray for the most part. Photographs of Indian fashion and dancers are displayed throughout also to give it a more stylish flair. Cocktails such as their “Pani Puri Chaat Margarita,” made with turmeric is unique but intriguing. And for true Indian-Fusion cuisine, most of the choices on the menu are vegetarian.
