Raf Simons – Spring 2010 Collection

For this go-around, Raf Simons presented a collection mature and rather commercial relative to seasons past. Simons’ creations for Spring 2010 were reminiscent of previous Jil Sander minimalist design – or this is purely my observation. This collection still embodied Raf Simons’ design and styling motif, but there was now a more toned down approach. The runway was abundant with expertly tailored suits paired with white shirts. This tailoring carried over to the many impressive leather coats which enhanced the luxurious vision that Simons had in mine for his sophisticated and more high-end representation.

Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons continues his longstanding relationship with quintessential British label Fred Perry for a collaborative collection for the autumn/winter season. In addition to knitwear, the black and white grainy images showcase how the iconic Fred Perry thirty-leaf logo is used; the embroidered laurel is enlarged in the polo shirt, getting a metallic rusting treatment inspired by American minimalist artist Carl Andre.

The Raf Simons for Fred Perry collection this coming Spring / Summer season takes cue from West African culture for their range. The brighter color range such as orange, blue, and honey hues bring about a more vibrant that fuses punk culture and African influences.
