Closed – Fall/Winter 2010 Lookbook

German label Closed was actually founded in Italy in the 1970’s as a denim brand. With its expansion throughout the years, the label has undergone its transformation from denim label to casual and functional clothing retailer. For Fall/Winter 2010, the label gets a little rugged with its usual sophisticated styles. A mixture of denim and leather is thrown in the mix with pieces that feature worn in details. The knits go well with the scarves and the outerwear, and we’re certainly fans of Johnny Depp-esque looks. A few items that standout are the denim pieces, a camel coat, the scarves, and the cropped trousers.

Varde77 – Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

We vowed that we’d follow Varde77’s offerings ever since we caught a glance at their Fall/Winter 2009 Collection. For Spring/Summer 2010, the label keeps in tune with their nomadic story. With a lookbook set on the beach, the range gets a bit more comfortable and at ease with tees, shorts, tops, denim jackets, and lighter outerwear products. There are also standouts in the collection such as the jumpsuits, and the yellow and green parkas. Overall, the collection contains characteristics of ruggedness and subtlety which is a perfect mixture for the Spring in terms of streetwear trends.

Cold Method – Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

Denimaniac points us to the Cold Method label’s Spring/Summer 2010 lookbook. According to DM, Cold Method is,” inspired by vintage clothing with an irreverent twist.” We admire the label’s reference to the old classic styles found in the outerwear and in its suiting. The silhouettes are very form fitting, yet there’s an easiness to the way the pieces all come together. Patterns for some of the pieces are very subtle, and we admire the construction on some of the knits. However, we are more in tuned with the suit styles as the brand gives a diverse option for spring in day and night colors with browns and darker tones.

3sixteen – Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

3sixteen looks to New York’s Ace Hotel as the backdrop for their Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook. For the season’s range, the label focuses once again on supporting domestic businesses. According to 3sixteen, “Shirting fabrics are sourced and sewn together in New York along with our handmade ties. Leather for our footwear comes from the world-famous Horween Tannery in Chicago and is then assembled in Maine. Selvedge denim is flown in from Japan and expertly assembled with heavy duty hardware here in the US.” This just shows that 3sixteen knows the value of quality when it comes to U.S. manufactured goods. A.P.C. – Spring/Summer 2010 Lookbook

You can always count on A.P.C. to present us fashion that’s always sensible, timeless, and classic. Whenever I look at new collections from the label, I’m immediately reminded of the French new wave cinema era, but I’m sure it’s not just me. If ever someone in Hollywood were to recreate the films of Godard and Truffaut, I suggest that any costume designer or wardrobe personnel look to A.P.C. for inspiration. For Spring/Summer 2010, A.P.C. looks to dress you up in simple designs, patterns, and basic silhouettes. However, camouflage is introduce for those who dare to go beyond the brand’s simplistic nature.

Insight – Meridian Meltdown Autumn/Winter 2009 Lookbook

This collection doesn’t have the far fetched overly futuristic design of other labels or clothing collections. Instead, Insight opts for a more comfortable contemporary appeal; namely “clean urban”. What’s noticeable is that they seem to love straight leg pants, and they do so while showcasing this love with a variety of boots & sneakers. They keep it light on outer wear by including mid to light weight hoodies, jackets and thin sweaters but make up for that with an abundance of accessories.

Beams – Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection

Beams’ 2009 Autumn/Winter Collection is another entry into the canon of Japanese brands adapting the American look–almost always in either trad or boyish fashion. This contribution leans towards the boyish, adding love-it-or-hate-it updates (the drop-crotch) along with 1980-ish callbacks (the nylon jacket). Because of this, the collection manages to be both deliciously understated and simultaneously fashion-forward.
