Beams – Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection

Mastermind Japan Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection

While many fashion lines inspired by the early 90’s seem to think everyone in the era was either wearing t-shirts with colorful, large logos or skinny jeans and oversized flannel shirts, Mastermind Japan’s Winter 2009 collection offers a more nuanced exploration the times. Sure, there’s some flannel, a pair of fingerless gloves, and maybe even a wallet chain, but those stylistic decisions are tempered with the era’s Chicago White Sox-inspired black on black–with a touch of white–athletic wear (seen here as a varsity jacket), Karl Kani-esque dark denim matching jackets and pants, and the tone-on-tone matching of a black shirt and suit. The collection branches a little, offering a skull and crossbones heavy cardigan and all-black toggle coat but the overall aesthetic is a much more muscular, serious interpretation of an era whose influence had devolved into loud b-boys or toe-gazing wimps.

Japan Stop Motion Video
Keep those awful memories of travel slide shows your aunts and uncles used to make you watch away and play this video of a couple’s travels to Japan. With their pictures, they’ve decided to edit a video of all the images they’ve taken accompanied by LCD Soundsystem’s song, Sound of Silver. The video includes some stop motion animation, which gives it an even more inspirational viewing.
