Interiors & Exteriors by Leder+Ragnarsdottir+OEI

Leder+Ragnarsdottir+OEI-mai

In Lörrach, Germany, architecture firm Lederer+Ragnarsdottir+OEI completed a project at the University of Education that included a renovation of existing campus buildings, exterior space planning, and construction of new educational facilities. Originally built in the 1960’s, the school was designed around a central courtyard using modern theory and ideals. Transparency, views of the landscape, and social hubs were all important determining factors in the original design. To modernize the campus while still honoring the existing structures and ideology, LRO created a layout “based on the conviction that a considerable part of studying happens outside of classrooms.” Consequently, a second, larger courtyard was created to act as a hub for the new construction. A series of lecture pavilions extend out from the courtyard and an outdoor auditorium lies at the junction of the old and new structures.

LRO is committed to “learn from the long tradition of building without falling into historicism,” and the project in Lörrach is a perfect example. The essence of the original campus remains, but in a thoroughly modernized form.

Brooklyn Bachelor Pad Photos by Jackie Caradonio

caradnonio-1

Desire to Inspire points us to the photographic works of Jackie Caradonio. As one of her projects, Caradonio was able to photograph the interiors of this great Brooklyn loft space owned by a French bachelor who owns several US art galleries. This male dream pad is complete with cars, masculine art depicting dogs, a blue kitchen space, an exposed brick bedroom, and more. Looking more like a fancy car showroom, than a home, we can’t help but feel that this home has its very own personality. The different uses of colors for different rooms really complements the cars in the space, as well as the many types of art displayed through the entire home. This is one special home for the quintessential art and design minded guy.

Apartment Interior by h20 Architects

Modular storage system that also serves to delineate rooms. This home of a Parisian advertising executive was formerly a cramped, dark apartment divided into six rooms. Now, thanks to the efforts of h20 Architects, his home is a bright, vivacious space with cleverly integrated storage throughout. Storage was a primary concern for the client, who needed to house and display his extensive comic and book collection. The architects seized the opportunity and used shelving and alcoves as a method of room delineation, which creates an open, reconfigurable plan. The system designed by h20 also incorporates media storage and a built in office area. Ebony stained floors and clean white walls are complemented by vivid accent colors lining the shelves and on kitchen and workspace surfaces.

Artis Capital Management Office by Rottet Studio

office-interior-main

The San Francisco offices of Artis Capital Management were recently unveiled with interior design by Rottet Studio. The offices overlook the Golden Gate Bridge and floor to ceiling windows allow natural light to illuminate the space. Rottet Studio strayed from traditional office design and created an atmosphere more akin to an art gallery than an office. An abundance of original modern art by Steven Charles is displayed throughout the space, with many pieces accompanied by dedicated seating areas. The furniture itself is a notable feature as well. Several pieces are original designs from prominent modern designer Zaha Hadid. The modern pieces are paired with classic mid century furniture to create a stylish synthesis of progressive and traditional design. Employee well-being was also a primary concern, so to complement the serene interior, Rottet incorporated a full fitness center and chose inflatable fitness balls as workstation seating. They hope that their design decisions inspire and motivate both employees and clients.
