1970 Ferrari 512 S Modulo Photographed by Benedict Redgrove

It’s hard to mention a unique Ferrari without the name Pininfarina coming up. In 1970, the fabled coachmaker put forth a design study/concept car that we can still stare at in amazement even today. We’re sure the 1970 Geneva Motor Show was breathtaking in its own right, but there’s no doubt that the Modulo was the crown jewel of the show. According to legend, Ferrari (in direct competition with Porsche) created 25 iterations of the 512S in order to meet homologation rules. Surprisingly, Maranello did not end of selling nor racing all 25, leaving chassis number 1046 in Pinanfarina’s hands. The result, as you see here, is a timeless design that is simply stunning in its forward thinking and aesthetics. The 512S was never designed to be driven one inch, and it doesn’t have to move to for one to appreciate features like its covered wheels, sliding canopy roof, and 24-hole engine cover. Simply stunning, and we have photographer Benedict Redgrove to thank for these images.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi in 2010

ferrari-world-in-abu-dhabi-

Finally, a theme park for gearheads, albeit with a 215-foot Ferrari logo on the roof. Fittingly, it also happens to be constructed in an area that will soon surpass Las Vegas in terms of excess, Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Adjacent to Yas’ opulent marina, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will be, at 200,000 square feet, the world’s largest indoor theme park. The park will be created by the heralded design firm Benoy, who cite the classic double curve of the Ferrari GT as their primary inspiration for the mindblowing design. The centerpiece of the 20-odd rides will be the world’s fastest rollercoaster (simulating an F1 car and reaching speeds of over 200kph), but the park will also feature shopping and other hospitality options. Thankfully, you do have time to save for those pricey tickets to the UAE; the grand opening is slated for mid-2010.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano China

GTB_Fiorano_main

Ferrari has collaborated with Chinese artist Lu Hao to create a one-off 599 GTB Fiorano. The 599, a very special car in its own right, has been given a very special exterior finish in addition to a few other unique tweaks. Drawing inspiration from Ge Kiln porcelain of the Song dynasty, Hao has given the Ferrari a similar “cracked glaze” pattern, with exquisite attention to detail; the color shading of the cracks varies throughout, giving the impression of varying degrees of depth. Hao, a Ferrari owner himself, has also added Chinese badging on the interior and exterior, adding a personal touch the the standard gauges and switches. This special-edition will be sold at a Gala on November 3rd, with the proceeds going to charity.

Ferrari Enzo FXX Evolution

ferrari-enzo-fxx-main

It takes a lot of confidence to tweak one of the greatest production cars of the modern era. Luckily, it seems that edo competition has that in spades. The Ahlen, Germany-based tuners seem intent on modifying only the world’s most exclusive and powerful vehicles, with a stable of supercars that includes Lamborghini LPs, a Ferrari 430, and an Audi R8. Their latest conception might trump its brethren, however. Edo has somehow given rise to an 840bhp Enzo, which they call the FXX Evolution. Despite its 180bhp advantage over a stock Enzo, the FXX Evolution also tips the scales 220 pounds lighter, and a functional (and insane) aero kit completes the look. The end result of their work quickly becomes a numbers game: the car hits 60mph in 3.2 seconds, has a top speed of 242mph, and can shift gears in 60 milliseconds. Yes, in the grand scheme of things, the FXX Evolution is a little ridiculous, but isn’t that the point?

ferrari-485-italia-main

With the knowledge that replacing the heralded F430 would be a practically insurmountable task, Ferrari has once again exceeded all expectations. The newest gem of their fleet is also their most anticipated car in years; the 458 will definitely set a new luxury supercar standard. The 458 debuts Maranellos new 4.5 liter V8, and produces a riotous 562bhp and 398lb-ft of torque at an unbelievable 9,000RPM. As with the also-new California, the 458 boasts a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. One thing that Ferrari has carried over is the predominantly aluminum body; the car weighs in at a scant 3,042 pounds. Preliminary data states a 0-60 time of 3.4 seconds, and word on the street is that the 458 will be the first production Ferrari to crack the 200mph barrier. There is a lot more to learn, as we expect to hear more in September, when the supercar debuts at the Frankfurt Auto Show. In the meantime, start sending gifts over to your local Ferrari dealer.

Dino Roso Ferrari Design Study

dino-roso-front

It’s safe to say that some designs are untouchable…at least we thought so. Ferrari’s classic 1967 Dino 264 GT has been revamped by design student Paolo Roso and will debut in 1:10 model form at the “Sognando l’automobile” exhibit in Northern Italy this October. While not the most stylish take on Maranello’s fabled creation, we really like the vertically stacked 599-esque headlights and huge intake ducts in the rear.
