The Town Where it Snows Editorial – Popeye Magazine

Styled by Tomoki Sukezane and snapped by Junji Hata in this October’s issue of Popeye magazine, model David Bruni shows off some powerful looks for Fall in “The Town Where It Snows”. One wonders where they dug up all these interesting new garments. The overcoat with the kiss marks all over it is crazy, the rough wool duffel coat with the fur gloves is amazing, and the classic bandleader’s jacket with brass buttons is gorgeous too. The editorial is meant to be fun and maybe a little tongue in cheek but the clothes inside of it are serious and very cool.

Steven Alan – Spring/Summer 2010 Collection Short Film

The ever innovative Steven Alan made the decision to release his Spring and Summer 2010 collection in the medium of a short film this year instead of the standard dog and pony show of New York Fashion Week and the results are gorgeous. A couple’s retreat from New York to the countryside for a weekend is the backdrop in an effort to take the looks out of the usual context of urbanity and into a setting with a much slower pace and more space to let the visuals breathe. As far as Alan’s clothes, they are straight from your parents’ photos from the 1960’s with simple plaid button ups and relaxed denim for men and sweet summer dresses and light sweaters for women. Romance and the light hearted side of life is what the collection is all about and the film expresses it beautifully.

Haversack – Fall/Winter 2009

The word wearable, when used to review fashion, is considered by some as an insult, implying a snoozy lack of innovation. But the effortless ease in which every piece from Haversack’s Fall Winter 09 wise and welcoming collection could enter any man’s closet reaffirms wearable as the highest of compliments. Paper-bagged baggy slacks and shrunken wool blazers appear equally comfortable while engineer-striped trousers and salt ‘n pepper sweater coats add covetable cool.

Topman Ltd. Autumn/Winter 2009 Lookbook

One thing to give to Topman: the brand is consistent. Consistent in its evolution. While the new Topman Ltd. Collection’s AW ‘09 Lookbook “(emphasizes) design, detail, fabric, and finish”, the line is much like other Topman offerings, in that it has classic pieces in modern fits, as well as pieces that would be considered perhaps a bit too interesting to wear to the office. In the classic pieces category: a beautiful navy shawl collar sweater-blazer, a gray formal wool overcoat, and classic men’s trousers. In the former category: a black pin-dot dress shirt, puffy blue bow tie, and plum (with cream striping) blazer. In its way, Topman delivers splendidly on its consistency, for depending on one’s lifestyle (and workplace) the collection offers something for you. Thus, something for everyone. Available at Topshop.

Kanye West, a man who has been spotted in public often wearing Balmain apparel, has called their 2010 spring collection his “favourite line” at the moment, and it is easy to see why. The French label, who collaborated with photographer Karim Sadhi and model Clement Chabernaud for their ad campaign, feature several casual outfits including a denim vest paired with faded yellow jeans and a bomber jacket with fitted combat trousers. The spring collection takes inspiration from motorbike culture, which explains the casual military look as seen in the pictures.
