The Gentleman of Bocongo from Trolley Books

bocongo-main

Fashion statement as public rebellion, the dazzling dandyism of Le SAPE (Society of Ambianceurs and Persons of Elegance) dates back to 1950s Congo and continues today, both in Africa and in the club scene of Paris. Sir Paul Smith dedicated his entire 2010 Spring women’s line upon the vibrant verve of the men’s movement captured brilliantly by photographer Deniele Tamagni in the new book The Gentleman of Bocongo. Available at Trolley Books of London.

Paolo Pecora Milano – Fall/Winter 2009

paolopecoramilano-autumn-wi

Paola Picaro’s FW 09/10 Lookbook brings a little bit of realism back to fashion–the kind that’s been missing, even in “these economic times.” While the clothes speak for themselves with sturdy wools, rich tweeds, and toasty layering, it’s refreshing to see them presented in an everyday setting: the coffee shop. The collection, and the setting, set a mood that isn’t grand or cutting edge, but attainable and on point–giving the overall presentation a dash of Ralph Lauren-esque maturity.

G-Star Raw – Spring/Summer 2010

g-star-raw-spring-summer-20

G-Star Raw went a bit under the radar during NY Fashion Week. The heavily denim inspired label’s collection for Spring/Summer 2010 mixes both a rugged aesthetic alongside toned down pieces. The addition of all white outfits to the presentation, as well as bravely patterned suits gives the collection a more daring vibe, all while staying true to G-Star’s denim roots.

b Store Spring/Summer 2010 Runway

b-store-main-2010-spring

This past week b Store debuted their Spring/Summer 2010 collection in London and it looks like the English label is taking a nod from the upper class in their inspiration for Spring and Summer 2010. The colors are soft and the shorts are short and you can just see the bourgeois tennis matches and yacht clubs of the future where these looks would fit right in. b Store would have us look devastatingly cool in monochrome or in a silver blue rain slick with a drawstring or even some finely tailored trousers and a button up with a blazer this Summer. And who are we to argue with them? There’s no need, for b Store has us covered.

Rock-a-Billy Editorial from Tendencias

rockabilly-editorial-main

Fall is perennially the fashion fan’s finest time of year, but it doesn’t take long for the stacks of brown cords and racks of thick tweeds to become suffocating in their somber stuffiness. Rock-a Billy, a be-bopping new layout in Spanish fashion mag Tendencias photographed by Esteban Palazuelos blasts a neon kick and oily slick into autumn’s ordinary aesthetic of unsaturated elegance. By amping up both the Punkish and PeeWee punches of a look with air-tight jeans or sock-hop sweaters, the easy-listening ennui of fall remixes instantly into something rebelliously retro.
