Patrik Ervell – Spring 2010

The beauty and danger of the elements rose as an intriguing element central to the Spring 2010 show by Patrick Ervell. Optimistic pieces, pastel in color and proper in form, were paired with edgy, almost eerie items. Oxidized overcoats, rust-ruined trousers and light-ravaged denims all seemingly left for a decade in the deserts of the west all exude a seared, sun and rain-ravaged roughness that Ervell challenges the eye to accept as not ruined but rather refined.

Visvim Fall/Winter 2009 Feature in SENSE Magazine

visvim-sense-main

Japan’s Hiroki Nakamura worked with SENSE magazine to showcase his label Visvim’s Fall/Winter 2009 collection in the October issue. Classic items like khakis and tweed blazers are given a shrunken twist, making the collection a casual counterpoint to Thom Browne. Be sure to not only view the pictures, but read the descriptions as well for unique insight into the collection’s creation.

Comme des Garcons Homme – Autumn/Winter 2009

comme-des-garcons-homme-aw-2009-1

Though not entirely representative of Comme des Garcons Homme’s usual choice of proportions, these shots from the Autumn/Winter 2009 collection show the brand as eminently wearable. Nicely tailored in chocolate with khakis and light blue or grey and white, the pieces lend a sophisticated air to what has become a sloppy category.

Band of Outsiders – Spring 2010

band-of-outsiders-ny-fashion-week-main

The formula may be similar, but Scott Sternberg’s schoolboy dress casual (not dress casual as in collared shirt and pants, but as in rumpled, unstructured suits) continues to evolve each season, expanding Band Of Outsider’s worldview. The Spring 2010 collection takes this aesthetic oceanside, though sometimes its unclear exactly which ocean he’s in. Is it late 1970’s California, with light, casual suits and dip-dyed shirts? Or perhaps it’s early 70’s Cousteau (or Steve Zissou?) in baby blue and yellow with the signature red beanie? Either way, the pieces work as well together as with most other Band Of Outsider’s pieces, giving the wearer a certain nonchalance that works anywhere.

Post Overalls – Fall/Winter 2009 Jackets

post-overalls-jackets-main

Post Overalls is helmed by Takeshi Ohfuchi, and the primary design idea for his label is deeply rooted in vinate work clothes. It is his reverence to the old-world craftsmanship and industrial aesthetic of the Machine Age in 1920’s America that evokes a romanticism and masculinity in all of his pieces.

Images of his latest jackets have surfaced on sites like SlamXHype which display this great character. In the images following the jump, you’ll be able to have a look at the Engineer Jacket (a Post Overalls / Post O’alls mainstay), Sea-Cruz Parka and Engineer Jacket2 XX. It’s details such as the stitching for the pockets and the buttons that standout.

Noir Basic – Spring/Summer 2010

noir-basic-2010-spring-summer-lookbook-1

Noir Basic give us a preview of next year’s spring/summer collection through images from their lookbook, which retains a street-shot feel a la ‘The Sartorialist’. The French brand’s latest lineup is made entirely in France with premium French leathers, denim, wool, and other materials, and consists mostly of outerwear, including various jacket designs such as a leather bomber jacket, denim blazer, and various varsity jackets, with a toned-down colour palette adding sophistication to an already solid array of garments. Keeping in touch with their philosophy of ‘high quality, low quantity’, each piece will be available in limited numbers.

Woolrich Woolen Mills Corduroy Shooting Jacket

Corduroy-Jacket-Woolrich-Woolen-Mills-1

In now at OiPolloi this chestnut colored Shooting Jacket from Woolen Mills by Woolrich takes aim at sophisticated sporting style and scores a pretty prize. With reinforced shoulder, crushed minstrel leather buttons, and detachable throat tab, the Field & Stream styling of the jacket yields an elegance beyond it’s function-focused detailing. Perfect for those chaps who wade patiently in the weeds, yes; but perhaps even more perfect for those who never would.

Rag & Bone – Spring 2010

Rag-and-Bone-Spring-2010-1

Militia hip never seems to stray for too long from the men’s catwalks. For Rag & Bone’s Spring 2010 showing the front-lines look was out in full force but rendered with a liquid not rigid sense of refinement. Trousers were slippery and sophisticated, often cinched, pleated, sheened or slouched. Coats ranged from Rhythm Nation-issued to Hendrix-esque, polished as well in movement-making materials and forgiving cuts.

Peak Performance – Autumn/Winter 2009 Casual Collection

peak-performance-mains

Scandinavia’s largest functional sportswear label, Peak Performance, presents the Autumn/Winter 2009 looks for its least athletic line, the Casual Collection. And although drifting down the midtown cement to descend into a cubicle chair is about as active as many men get these days, sporting blue-sky plaid button-ups and evergreen parkas by a company who knows the true meaning of adventure is an excellent first step toward a more kinetic existence.

Aquascutum Limited

Aquascutum-Limted-1

Tailor of London’s renowned Savile Row Nick Hart has teamed up with Graeme Fidler, head of menswear at Aquascutum Ltd. to bring back classic 1950’s and 1960’s British tailoring with a refined contemporary twist. The looks are versatile, luxurious, and glamourous while never being anything but wholeheartedly masculine. The choice to shoot in iconic black and white was a great idea, leaving what the garments might look like in living color completely to the imagination.
