Renovo Hardwood Bicycles

renovo-bike-2

More than just purely aesthetics, Renovo Bicycles are returning the bicycle to its original form with their all-wood frames. If you’re skeptical about an all-wood bicycle, you’d be pleased to know that Renovo’s heirloom quality frame’s fatigue life is substantially longer than aluminum or steel and rivals that of carbon.

The frames are made from hollow wood and laminated bamboo, which Renovo claims to have, “superior ride quality and durability compared to man-made materials, and when combined with an array of advanced technologies, it becomes a high performance [component],”

These bikes are also almost entirely handmade, from the sorting and matching of the wood, to bonding, machining and shaping. Future Renovo owners are also able to chose their desired wood, as opposed to most hand-built bike companies which have their parts sourced from other countries.

Pulse: Urban Bike Concept from Teague

pulsefront

New from Seattle-based design studio Teague, the Pulse is a fresh look at the increasingly ubiquitous urban bike conundrum: How to attract people to the whole idea of riding a bike every day and how to add practicality (well, some practicality) to the current hipsters’ must-have accessory, the fixie bike.

Designer Dana Krieger has created an iconic graphic in the semi-circular section luminescent frame and set this off against business-like matte-black tubing for the steerer, seat and rear triangle tubing. A particularly nice touch is the way these tubes are seated within the semi-circular section of the frame. Other features include discreet bar-end indicators and caged pedals that are counterweighted so that they sit the right way up slip your feet into.

It looks clean and sophisticated and begs the question; when will one of the big players in the bike market take a chance on a product with clean detailing and simple, bold graphics to match the Pulse? Although if their engineers shake their heads at the semi-circular tube section, well, maybe we can forgive them that…

Hublot “All Black” Bike x BMC

hublot-bmc-main

High end watch makers Hublot has teamed up with Swiss cycling company BMC to offer a limited edition racing bike. The run will only consist of 30 of bicycles. Everything about this black on black beauty is a work of art & all parts are light weight high performance materials. The frame is constructed of carbon fiber to ensure ruggedness & the pedals contain ceramics to reduce friction. The carbon fiber helps make the bike look fast & elusive as well as sleek like the build on Hublot watches.

The flat brushed look of the wheels, stainless gears & curvature of the metal frame take this piece to another level altogether. Both brands take special care to place their logos on the bike in a non obtrusive manner. Everything comes together perfectly to create a very simple & clean look. The first of these 30 racing bikes will be race tested at the World Stars Cycling Criterium in Monaco.

James Pearse Limited Edition Cruisers

pearse-bike-main

Beach Cruisers, that ol’ signal of casual cool, date from the sands of mid-century Southern California, so it’s only fitting that they get a stylistic upgrade courtesy of another sunny weather fixture–designer James Perse. Pearse, best known for celebrity-attracting (Gyllenhaal, Affleck, DiCaprio) casual Malibu-appropriate clothing, gives the cruiser a few handlebar and frame tweaks, as well as a wicked matte paint job, thus creating a bike as fitting for leisurely city driving as it is for the beach. The Custom Built Vintage-Style Beach Cruiser, made with a steel frame, billet aluminum stem, and hand-aged leather seat and grips, is limited edition, and available only at James Perse boutiques.
