Band of Outsiders Camel Hair Polo Coat

For the fancy man with a bank account to match, the Camel Hair Polo Coat by Band of Outsiders is an ideal acquisition. Made by hand in Brooklyn and featuring a peak lapel, cupro lining, and a single back vent, the sharp-cut coat exudes moneyed elegance. Available online at Farinellis.
Band of Outsiders – Spring 2010

The formula may be similar, but Scott Sternberg’s schoolboy dress casual (not dress casual as in collared shirt and pants, but as in rumpled, unstructured suits) continues to evolve each season, expanding Band Of Outsider’s worldview. The Spring 2010 collection takes this aesthetic oceanside, though sometimes its unclear exactly which ocean he’s in. Is it late 1970’s California, with light, casual suits and dip-dyed shirts? Or perhaps it’s early 70’s Cousteau (or Steve Zissou?) in baby blue and yellow with the signature red beanie? Either way, the pieces work as well together as with most other Band Of Outsider’s pieces, giving the wearer a certain nonchalance that works anywhere.

Band of Outsiders – New Fall/Winter 2009 Items

Popular Singaporean store, Surrender, posted images of some new in-store pieces from Scott Sternberg’s Band of Outsiders Fall/Winter 2009 collection. These items include several gingham, denim, plaid and western shirts. Also available are sleek black and charcoal two-button suits, an interesting duffle/pea hybrid coat and smart-looking gray, wool sportcoats with elbow patches.

Band of Outsiders – Fall/Winter 2009 featuring Jason Schwartzman

Unveiled in a much-applauded presentation in NY last spring, the Fall/Winter 09 collection from Band of Outsiders is cast in a new light in Polaroids snapped on the streets of LA’s Chinatown. With pose-striking provided courtesy of Hollywood jester Jason Schwartzman the line’s cinnamon-colored cord blazers and Scottish striped sweaters shed the dweeby chic of their original unveiling in these new images and adopt a looser, 70s-slanted swank. A raucous and welcome reminder that it’s not what you wear that matters, but how.

Band of Outsiders Chukka Boot

In another collaboration with deck shoe innovators Sperry, Band of Outsiders have released their latest pair of footwear: a shoe that has a chukka boot silhouette but with deck shoe details. Although the colour is classed as ‘cracked Champagne’, the grey suede shoes feature a rubber sole complete with white stitches, and are lined with striped cotton. The reasonably priced chukka/deck boots are available at French online retailer Tres Bien.
Band of Outsiders Footwear at Surrender

The nerdy quirk of the Fall Winter 09 show from Band of Outsiders was a true standout earlier this spring. Singapore shop Surrender at last has a set of simple striped oxford shirts available from the collection and, better yet, a broad selection of shoes. In collaboration with Sperry footwear old standbys like penny loafers and boat shoes are spunked up in bold blue-on-red color combinations, or wintery wool fabrications in tonal grays. See Surrenderous.com for more information.

Band of Outsiders A/W 09 Lookbook

This is probably the umpteenth time I’ve professed my adoration for the Band of Outsiders collection. The brand has caught fire this season especially from the enlisting of Kanye West (a pretty notable pop / hip-hop artist) in their ad campaign.
Hopefully, we can share this appreciation when viewing the images from the site’s lookbook (see all images after jump). What I particularly like about Band of Outsiders is the styling. It has always been about the looks in its entirety as opposed to the pieces. There are several designers trying to mimic Mr. Sternberg’s direction – some being completely successfully because I wouldn’t be able to distinguish one from another in many cases. Perhaps, chalk up their success to good advertising.
My absolute favorites include the navy blue toggle coat, all of the shoes (Sperry collaboration), and the herringbone suit.

Band of Outsiders AW09

Designer Scott Sternberg’s Autumn/Winter 2009 collection for his brand Band of Outsiders can be described as classic, refined, and youthful. The pieces of course, reflect that of the styles that come New Wave French cinema, but with its own American twist. We especially like the uniqueness of the colors, and definitely the two toggle coat in this range. It’s a definite inspiration for anyone trying out a new look, plus you don’t really need to be a Goddard enthusiast to appreciate these styles. Check out the rest of the styles at Style as well.
