Saskia Diez – Papier Bags

SaskiaDiezPapier-1

From the Sakia-Diez site: Take up the familiar, give it further thought and add something new: A collaborative project between Saskia and Stefan Diez, the “Papier” series is an experiment in revising the classical typology: the two designers have pointed out the basic requirements to a travel bag – durability, protection and light weight – and sought for an appropriate material other than the traditional choices of leather and reinforced textiles. The “Papier” bags are made of Tyvek®, a synthetic paper that is extremely lightweight – 135g for the bigger and 115g for the smaller bag – but at the same time exceptionally robust, both water- and tear-proof. The material is completely recyclable. Apart from that, one will appreciate the high-end finishes applied to such seemingly banal material as paper. Silkscreen printing techniques gives it a particularly attractive look. “Papier” won the German Designpreis 2010.

Available at Saskia-Diez and select retailers world wide.

From MyTypewriter: Classic example of Streamline Style, a benchmark in American history! illesteva-eyewear-summer-20

Illesteva was one of the few eyewear brands that were on display from our Capsule trip to New York. The Spring/Summer 2010 truly brings originality into the sunglasses market with styles inspired by 1950’s Havana. A lot of the frame designs of the range bring about a fun aspect to eyewear with rounder shapes and other quirky eye catching details. The summer season’s lookbook showcases veteran domino players in action. It was shot by David Cabrera on famed Calle Ocho Boulevard in Miami’s historic “Little Havana” district. Look to April for the brand’s launch.

Shigenobu Twilight Handcrafted Scent

shigenobu-twilight-fragranc

From Ooga Booga: This is the first handcrafted scent by NY artist Anicka Yi and architect Maggie Peng. The fragrance is inspired by the Fusako Shigenobu, former leader of the Japanese Red Army, who was believed to be in exile in Lebanon for many years after orchestrating some of the group’s most political statements. Yi and Peng have chosen cedar wood as a central theme of this fragrance’s narrative, as cedar is highly regarded in Lebanon as a national emblem. The scent uses three different kinds of cedar wood as its base note, along with violet leaf and nutty heart notes, and top notes of yuzu, shiso leaf, and black pepper. The packaging for this hand-distilled fragrance is made of raw cedar wood, each bottle uniquely (and painstakingly) hand-cut by the creators in architectural geometry, encasing a 10ml glass bottle of liquid within. Available now at the Oogabooga Store.
