Mt. Rainier Designs – Spring/Summer 2010

mtrainierdesign-spring2010-

Outdoor outfitters, Mt. Rainier Designs just updated their website with their Spring/Summer 2010 range. In it you will find a bevy of items MRD is well known for. Some standouts that are on our radar are the Panamint Hood Vest, the Short Parka, and the Duffle and Bungee packs. There aren’t a lot of labels out there doing what MRD is doing in terms of outdoor wear production, and it’s good to see that their Spring range is something outdoor fans can be proud of.

J.Lindeberg – Spring/Summer 2010 Campaign

jlindberg-campaign-main

J.Lindeberg suits deserve art direction such as this. The latest Spring/Summer 2010 campaign from the menswear label showcases some of their season’s looks in this black and white campaign. The photography is raw and it’s something different from the acclaimed Swedish brand. It’s sophisticated and edgy with a bit of that old fashioned touch but with modern style. The campaign stars model Jeremy Dufour and is photographed by Andreas Sjödin.

Nissan Juke

nissan-juke

Have you ever wondered what the Rogue would be if it was actually a cool car? So did Nissan, apparently, and it seems we should have been taking last year’s Qazana concept vehicle more seriously when we saw it in Geneva. The Juke is poised to be the perfect urban entry-level crossover, and will bring a healthy dose of style, utility, and youth to the marketplace. Nissan’s newest entry serves up a great combination of car and sport-ute; it has excellent ground clearance and a wheel/tire combination much better suited for rolling over curbs than cruising down the PCH. In typical Nissan fashion, the Juke also gives away its sports car heritage; the 370Z-inspired boomerang taillights, high curvy beltline, and sexy roofline (complimented nicely by a spoiler) all indicate that the vehicle was designed for spirited driving. With the Juke scheduled to arrive in the United States, Europe, and Japan, three different engines will be available, including a 1.5 liter common-rail diesel to compliment turbocharged and naturally aspirated iterations of their 1.6 liter powerplant, capable of producing 117 and 190 horsepower respectively. Other clever options by Nissan include an improved AWD system that allows for better cornering, and their Dynamic Control System, which allows front passengers to access system information and control functions. Our favorite feature, other than the lights, has to be the motorcycle gas tank-styled center console; it’s great to see that Nissan just continues to make fun vehicles with sport in mind. Look for official pictures of the Juke after its Geneva debut next month.

Habode Homes by International Housing Solutions

habode-home

Assembly line style manufacturing techniques paired with prefabricated, panelized building elements is the key to producing both the HABODE and ihouz by IHS. The manufacturing method guarantees that specifications are exact and unvarying from unit to unit.

An equally important feature of HABODE and ihouz is their ease of transportation; in shipping mode, they are compliant with international shipping standards regarding dimension and structural characteristics. This translates to a modern dwelling that can acclimate to virtually any locale or site.

General Idea – Fall/Winter 2010 Show

General-Idea-FW-2010-1

Korean designer, Bumsuk Choi, presented the latest menswear collection of his General Idea line during NY Fashion Week this past Monday. Rarely does Choi veer way off of the dark neutral color palette, and the featured items of his show remained consistent to this color story. The layering in the looks was comprised of simple, solid colored knits (especially turtlenecks) and a variety of outerwear including toggled overcoats, leather jackets, and blazers. Some particular looks reoccurred on the runway at times. There were the wool trouser shorts over what appeared to be leggings. There was the use of metallic colors in the outerwear which really popped on the catwalk. There was also a “bandana” print on some of the overcoats that added interest to the often solid-colored pieces layered underneath them.

The Photography of Luke Byrne

luke-byrne-photography

The photos of Luke Byrnes‘ show how skilled he is at capturing the unseen. Moments in time caught that seem so personal that the subject is unaware that they are being captured on film. A woman stands looking down in the shower wearing her sea foam shower cap, a man wades too far out in the emerald sea, while a group of balloons float up to the ceiling like birds to the sky. All of these images seemingly calm and serene, and only part of the bigger picture. One is left wondering what happened before and after each one was shot. The soft green tint in each photograph offers more than a pleasing aesthetic, but an eerie feeling of quiet. Lighting in each picture also plays a big part in portraying the mood. Whether it be the flash of the camera that illuminates the paint like splatter across the trees, or the sun shining through the canopy of ropey branches of a giant maple, the light becomes just as imprtant as the subject matter.

Every now and again, a photographer like Luke Byrne comes along, shooting the mundane mishaps of everyday life and catching them on film. Few do it so successfully.

GQ Visits Best New Designer in America Nominee Burkman Bros.

GQ goes behind the scenes once again to visit one of the nominees from their Best New Designer in America competition. While the first vid went to winner Billy Reid, this time around, Burkman Bros. gets the knock on the door as they open up their studio to reveal what they’ve been working on. As explained by the design siblings, much of their inspiration for the current collection revolves around the style of the backpackers and adventurers who visit Asia. They borrow bits and pieces from the simple Asian market goods, whether it be a crafted rug or a Bollywood poster. It’s quite refreshing to see a duo like the Burkman Bros. they really have optimistic view in their business practices, and you can genuinely tell that they are also enjoying themselves in the process.
