Fred Perry – 2009 Winter Collection

fred-perry-winter2009-colle

Go Tanabe photographs the fuzzed and flanneled Winter 2009/10 collection from Fred Perry. Plaid bravely battles argyle for its place as the print of the season as tartan patterned trousers, sweaters and golf coats mix with nubby neck-ties, fur-hooded parkas, and electric orange knit scarves. A suave but sporty mix of Perry’s most popular looks.

6876 and Regent Belt Company’s R6 Line

r6-first-look

From Forward thinking menswear label 6876 collaborate with Regent Belt Company for a truly unique clash of brands to create R6. Named after the year of the French student revolution and the year that punk kicked off in the UK, 6876 was started in 1995 by Kenneth MacKenzie. Since conception 6876 has continued to develop and grow and is now one of the UK’s only truly independent menswear labels. Regent Belt company, a traditional leather working company has been around for over 40 years, making quality goods in the heart of the UK’s traditional leather working industry, Northampton. R6 brings these two brands together to fuse tradition, design and craftsmanship into a collection of bags, belts, wallets, card holders and lanyards.

Each item is crafted in Northampton by traditional artisans using Italian and Bridal leather with quality trimmings such as pewter buckles, fused with the subtle design flair of 6876’s Kenneth Mackenzie, making a truly unique and exciting product.

All items will be available from selected stores and www.sixeightsevensix.com

The full range is being launched in Feb for S/S 10.

Award-winning House Equanimity by Joseph N. Biondo

house-equanimity-main

In Northampton, Pennsylvania, the AIA recently bestowed the top award for architectural excellence to Joseph N. Biondo for the House Equanimity he designed. Located in a nondescript subdivision, Biondo hoped to tie the home to its surroundings and forego the abundant architectural clichés he saw elsewhere in the area. He explains, “The primary building materials, site poured concrete and various concrete products, pay respect to the history of Northampton – the birthplace of American Portland Cement.”

The heavy base of the rectilinear structure is partially embedded into the site, and living spaces clad in varying shades of blue are cantilevered to create covered outdoor areas. Biondo reveals his design methodology, saying, “Deliberately crude in its execution, the concrete monolith is treated as an existing condition, or ruin, whose subsequent wood-framed, cementitious clad boxes are carefully inserted.”

Locally quarried limestone covers several surfaces inside, where an open plan, neutral colors, and minimal furnishings mimic the exterior aesthetic. A concrete wall borders a large private courtyard which provides a quiet reprieve from the surrounding suburb.

Koenigsegg Trevita CCXR

Koenigsegg-Trevita-main

The Trevita CCXR is the latest limited edition of Koenigsegg’s CCXR supercar. Trevita, in Swedish, means “three whites,” a reference to the number of cars planned for production. The limited production is due to the method and material employed in the manufacturing of the car’s bodywork. In-house Koenigsegg engineers developed a special type of carbon fiber whose fibers have been coated with a diamond finish, creating a metallic white (as opposed to traditional black) color. Dubbed the Koenigsegg Proprietary Diamond Weave, the material retains the typical, interwoven carbon fiber pattern, but with a unique, sparkling finish. Other upgrades over the standard CCXR include a double carbon wing, paddle shifters, an upgraded exhaust system, carbon ceramic brakes, and an infotainment system. The 1018 horsepower 4.7 liter engine is carried over from the standard car. Pricing has not been announced, but expect a considerable premium over the CCXR’s $1.2 million price tag.

Glass House by Nico Van Der Meulen Architects

glass-house-mainski

In Johannesburg, South Africa, Nico Van Der Meulen Architects designed this spectacular 26,000 square foot home. The owner’s only criteria were an open, light filled plan, and views of the garden from all rooms. The architects devised a massive complex of living spaces, arranged in a semi-circular pattern to envelope the garden. Monolithic concrete framework is arranged in a radial pattern, emanating from the center of the home. The framework complements outdoor living spaces, including decks, patios, pools, and fountains.

Extravagant touches abound throughout the home, including a 12 car underground garage, indoor pool, naturally ventilated atrium, art gallery, and an elegant entry staircase hovering above an indoor pond. These features are tied together with a rich, cohesive palette of rare stone and wood paired with extensive integrated lighting.

2010 Vyrus 987 C3 4V Supercharged

vyrus-supercharged-main

Yes, you read the name correctly. Italian specialty tuners Vyrus have added another carbon-fiber laden superbike to their stable. The 987, their newest example, holds the distinction of being the most powerful production motorcycle in the world. The base model uses a Ducati 1198 engine that produces 170bhp; the bike itself weighs only 359lbs. Vyrus will also make available an ‘R’ model, boasting 14 more ponies and shedding 11 pounds (from where, we’re not sure). The cream of the crop, however, appears to be their supercharged version, which is clearly not for the faint of heart. This street-legal monster claims an output of 211 horsepower despite a curb weight of a mere 339lbs. Such numbers put the Vyrus in direct competition with Ducati’s heralded Desmosedici RR. Aesthetically, the Vyrus looks like a carboned and overengineered version of Bimota’s Tesi 3D, which speaks directly of the bike’s lineage. Both the Vyrus and the Bimota can be linked to the famed Massimo Tamburini; they were developed virtually side-by-side and share the ‘wasp’ look, minus the fairings for the Vyrus. Carbon fiber jokes aside, we love the look of the Vyrus; it is brutal and direct, and shows off all of the bike’s options without any pretense. It is a machine built purely for speed and is priced accordingly-the supercharged version tops out at lofy $112,000, nearly double the price of the base model.

The SS10 uses classic lasts (lace-ups, loafers, and brogues) and classic materials (full grain leather, leather welts, and suede) in unique colors, including yellow, aqua, and navy.
