The Local Firm – Autumn/Winter 2010 Show

local-firm-fall2010

Swedish fashion label, Local Firm combines inspirations from art, architecture, and design. A lot of their influences come from the Bauhaus movement and former Europe’s eastern block. For Fall 2010, we see a lot of the contrast of sophistication and streetwear into the range with long trenches, knits, denim, leather, and more. Bauhaus is thoroughly evident in this collection, as geometric details such as lines and trimmings give off an architectural feel to the pieces.

triwa-turtle-naked-brasco

Watch brand TRIWA has released two versions of their newest Brasco model. The ‘Turtle’ and ‘Naked’ Brascos are hand cut and polished from acetate to create a tactile sense of enduring quality usually reserved for that of Ivory and Tortoise Shell. It’s not so often watches get these the tortoise treatment, so it’s the perfect complement to some of the sunglass styles we often see. Both models are also ideal for night and day accessorizing.

Junya Watanabe – Fall 2010 Show

junya-watanabe-fall2010

While New York Fashion Week is still moving along, we thought we’d catch up a bit of some of the labels we’ve missed from the European Fashion Week shows. In keeping with the Fall 2010 styles in mind, Junya Watanabe gives a show in Paris that’s reminiscent of the Jazz band era. With a color story ranging from blacks, greys, tans, browns, olives, and blue, we get a sense that the collection is ready for any weather condition. We’re thoroughly impressed with the range of rain parkas, as well as the suits, blazers, denim, and tweeds. Patterns such as plaid and camo also make it to the collection, which gives the range some standout details. Overall, Junya Watanabe 2010 gives of a sophisticated mood with casual sensibilities in mind.

Kyneton House by Marcus O’Reilly Architects

kyneton-house-by-Marcus-O’R

A central circulation spine splits private and public spaces in the Kyneton House, designed by Marcus O’Reilly Architects. Located on a private, heavily vegetated lot in Kyneton, Victoria, Australia, the home devotes equal attention to both interior and exterior living areas while reinterpreting local architectural styles.

The public half of the home features a linear, open floor plan with kitchen, dining, and living areas incorporated into one large space. A slanted roof with clerestory windows and sliding glass doors takes full advantage of the home’s northern solar exposure. The sliding glass doors open onto an expansive outdoor deck conducive to entertaining guests.

Furthermore, the Kyneton House is ecologically sensible, incorporating thermal mass, double glazed windows, roof overhangs, and a tank in the front of the property, which harvests rainwater from the roofs and provides water for the toilets, laundry and garden.

2010 – UEFA Champions League

eufa

The first round of the UEFA Champions League is set to kick off today. This stage of the competition always produces exciting match-ups and plenty of last second heroics, making it one of the greatest sports competitions in the world. David Beckham, currently playing with AC Milan, will face his old club Manchester United for the first time since leaving the club in 2003. It will be an emotional day for Beckham, but his side is poised to pull of the upset against the reigning Premier League champions. The player to watch on AC Milan will not be Beckham, but the young Brazilian Forward Pato. His speed, quickness, and skill on the ball will keep Manchester United’s back line busy all night. For Manchester United, the man of the moment has to be Wayne Rooney. He is currently in the goal scoring form of his career and will look to put his stamp on the match early. Today’s other match sees Real Madrid and their new “Galacticos” face off against French side Lyon. All matches start at 2:45PM EST, for a full schedule of the first knock out stage visit uefa.com

Maserati Tramontane Concept

Maserati-Tramontane-Concept-1

The name Maserati will always evoke the feeling of speed and luxury, so when we caught wind of this concept, we had to jump in and fight out what the fuss is all about. The Tramontante as its called is a lightweight electric luxury supercar designed to eliminate the excess use of multiple body parts. It’s simple and efficient throughout both exterior and interior spaces. The concept comes from Czech student Ondrej Jirec, who thought of a streamlined connection from the Tramontane’s components straight to its body panels – color, material, and other characteristics play a part in the layering of the design.

Bespoken – Fall 2010 Show

bespoken-main

Bespoken could possibly give the other Fall 2010 labels a run for its money in the “coolest” collection category. From first glance, thoughts of French New Wave cinema comes to mind with its grey color tones, short suits, fedoras, and bow ties. It’s eerily similar to the likes of Band of Outsiders, but the style is definitely easily discernible. There’s a boyish quality to the collection, poetically channeling the looks of Jean-Paul Belmondo, Gérard Blain, Jean-Pierre Léaud, and Maurice Ronet. As for the collection itself, we find ourselves gravitating to the buffalo plaid blazer, the hats, the short blazers, and a few of the round collar tops.

Buckler – Fall 2010 Show

buckler-fall2010

Buckler goes nomad for his 2010 Fall collection. Ideal for the would be traveler/wanderer in mind, Buckler puts together a range consisting of double breasted blazers, three piece suits, wool jackets, thick knit sweaters, slim trousers, and asymmetrical tops. The color palette is heavy on blacks and greys, but there’s the addition of multicolored flannels, browns, tans, and olives. The collection is subtle with a rugged approach, and as for the traveler/wanderer style – think Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman meets Jack Kerouac’s poetry.

Rag & Bone – Fall 2010 Show

rag-and-bone

Military inspired garb is great, and it’s even better when its done right. Rag & Bone prepares a collection appropriately tailored for the war trenches. There’s a rugged and apocalyptic feel to the range with black boots, down wool jackets, oversized scarves, militaristic blazers, super chunky knits, leather patched jackets, and more. The feel of the collection provides an always-prepared-for-anything look, whether it be extreme conditions as a foot soldier, or a strategical masterminding command officer. The color palettes that go from black, grey, olive, and burgundy also signals a very impressive color story line reflecting the World War theme of the range.
