anatomica-browns-beach-clot

Anatomica’s Autumn/Winter 09 line offers this Brown’s Beach Cloth Vest in nubby navy that christens your modern look with a quaint, almost chaste sense of charm. Available at King-Nagoya.com.

Bleeker St. – Fall 2009 Campaign

Bleeker-St-Fall-2009-1

Each successive lookbook we review this Fall seems to up the ante, and Bleeker St. for Fall 2009 is no exception. Dapper and uncompromising in execution of style, this lookbook could impress all from Broadway to the board room. Photographed by Arnaldo Anaya Lucca, Alex Loomans, Travis Davenport, and Terron Wood, Bleeker St. proves that there are thousands of possibilities within suiting that go largely unexplored. Great stuff for the Men of 2009 and on.

Tattooed Love Boys Editorial from Blackbook

tattooed-love-boys-editorial-blackbook-main

A recent editorial in the September issue of Black Book is definitely worth flipping to (or clicking to) if you have a thing for ink or are just simply fascinated with the art form. Styled by Chris Benns and with Pieter Henket behind the camera, Dan Felton of Red makes a photo novella out of tattooed models Aram Gevorgyan and Douglas Nietzke. Not just the pastime of criminals and sailors like our grandparents were brought up to understand, the tattoo is a full blown modern phenomenon. We even see NYPD with spiderwebs on their elbows these days. Good looks!

Swedish Mill House by Wingardhs

Mill_House-main

In Malma, Sweden, the Mill House was designed and constructed as a modest vacation getaway where its inhabitants can indulge in the Swedish traditions of bathing and the sauna. Designed by architecture firm Wingardhs, the space is dominated by the sauna and requisite dressing/undressing areas. Water is a recurring theme throughout, with ponds bordering all sides of the home, and a pool for post-sauna bathing at the rear. Traditional Japanese design permeates both the interior and exterior of the home, with sliding glass doors, wood clad walls, and a translucent gable at one end of the bedroom. Dining and sleeping functions take a backseat in this vacation abode, which promises to provide its owners with as much tranquility as they desire.

Rizk Automobile 1957 Aston Martin DBR2

astonmartinfront

The Aston Martin DBR2, while never a serious contender in motorsport, was nonetheless an appealing car rich in heritage. Only two were ever produced, and earned a few victories stateside at the hands of George Constantine and the legendary Stirling Moss. Rizk Automobile’s take on the Aston racecar is terrific; each beautiful curve has been mimicked, albeit with modern materials. RA constructed the body panels out of a material called Carbon-Nomex (yes, the same Nomex they make flame retardant race suits out of), which is extremely light and strong. Other details remain largely unchanged, from the wire-spoke wheels to the side-exit exhaust. A number of engines are offered: a Jaguar inline-6 or V-12, or a Corvette-sourced LS3 V-8. The price of beauty? $180,000, something Aston owners should be used to paying already.

Umit Benan Spring/Summer 2010 Collection

a34a23front

Globe-trotting designer Umit Benan has imagined a mischief-filled Cuban mansion as the inspirational setting for his Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Holed up inside, a squad of scruffy scoundrels spiff themselves up in saggy suit-pants and Scarface-inspired dinner jackets, having raided recklessly the closet of a thicker and much richer man. Mixing linen, jersey and crisp but crumpled cotton in a nautical-gone-naughty colorway, the kick of Benan’s Cuba collection is its contrasting connotations. Feminine flourishes such as ruffles turn somehow rugged, workwear-relegated pieces like overalls suddenly ooze lazy luxury, and upper-class elegance devolves into dimwitted dowdiness through Benan’s quirky cuts and cinematic styling. “Purposely tacky,” the designer has dubbed these latest looks which might just be the most compelling contrast of his newest collection.

Aston Martin Cygnet

aston-martin

Aston Martin set tongues wagging earlier this week with the announcement of the Cygnet concept car, a £20,000 mini-Aston based on the Toyota iQ city car. Such a move is fraught with danger for a luxury manufacturer and Aston Martin will be hoping that their bid to grab a slice of the upmarket small car pie, a niche carved out by fellow UK car maker Mini, will prove a hit with the 25-30% of Aston owners in Europe that have a small car. To minimise the risk, the company will initially only offer the car to existing customers; CEO Dr Ulrich Bez describing the car as being akin to an ‘exclusive tender for a luxury yacht’.

If successful the Cygnet could open the door to further cooperation between Aston and Toyota- an intriguing possibility in light of the Japanese giant’s advanced hybrid technology that it currently uses in its Lexus range. It could also be another significant step in the miniaturisation of automotive luxury – Ferrari-flavoured Fiat 500 Abarth anyone?
