Bless Autumn/Winter 2009 No. 37 Collection and Video

bless-main

More and more designers are moving away from traditional lookbooks and fashion shows as the only means of showcasing their collections. The Paris and Berlin-based designers behind Bless have combined their Fall/Winter 2009 line with performance and video, shot in an empty space in Paris that had previously been both a restaurant and an office building. The result is intriguing, avant-garde and ultimately, very fun. Opting out of a runway or platform to pose upon, models here are each given a drum set and two drumsticks. Dressed in pieces from the collection, and sometimes in 3-D glasses, the models alternate between playing their instruments, simply going through the motions, or doing nothing at all. The clothing itself is experimental, oversized mash-ups of various fabrics and patterns, piled together to form new shapes and intentionally lopsided silhouettes, with an utter disregard for gender. When a fairly classic gray two-piece suit shows up, it almost makes sense in context that the male model is wearing red pumps. See the video below, and stay tuned through the end for still shots of the collection and a shout-out to the label’s interns.

In 2003, during a sojourn in Monaco, Anders and Tobias Björkstedt were inspired to create a new fashion label. Their label, Nikolaj d’Etoiles, is driven by the ideas of relaxation, power, sex, and “the good life,” and seeks to embody a “vision of perfection.” The fall/winter 2009 line from Nikolaj d’Etoiles features a well-curated collection of items, including blazers and coats cropped perfectly at the waist, trim sweaters, and pants (often tucked into a pair of the collection’s boots).

Burberry, the British fashion label with the iconic checkered patterning, has a history dating back to 1856. More recently, the company launched a spin-off men’s label named Burberry Black. Available only in Japan, Burberry Black is a full men’s line that continues its parent label’s tradition of offering shirts, pants, suits, trench coats, and accessories, but is geared towards a younger audience. The spring/summer 2009 collection from Burberry Black is now available, but if you can’t travel to Japan to see items in person, the label’s ad campaign and Web site should give you a good idea of what it has to offer.

Kolor Fall/Winter 2009 Collection

kolor-fw09-front

Kolor presents a Fall/Winter 09 collection with an emphasis on comfort. The Japanese label opts for relaxed fits throughout in its chunky sweaters, flecked wool rolled-hem jacket and roomy flannel pants. The most slim-cut trousers have substantially more give than most of the skinny fits seen in other collections in recent years. The color scheme is fittingly soft, as well, with neutral grays punctuated by pale reds and greens. Even the line’s two-piece suit is unpretentious and easy. Paired with the label’s white-soled boots or sneakers, Kolor is a perfect way to settle cozily into fall.

Flaph Spring/Summer 2009 Collection

flaph-ss09-front

Japanese brand Flaph is back with a Spring/Summer 09 line that both pays homage to and updates the bold patterns and pieces that have become preppy staples. Plaid features prominently, from a rich green, yellow and red shirt jacket, to earth-tone pants and several options in button-downs. The outerwear stands out in the collection, as well, including a three-button blazer with vertical stripes in navy and red and a two-tone green raincoat. The line steers clear of the ever-popular slim fit, opting for a roomier cut, most notably in a pair of wide patchwork shorts, giving the clothes a casual feel. The range is rounded out by a contrast, five-button polo in black and white and a classic tennis sweater. Visit www.flaph.com for details on where to buy.

3sixteen-2009-fall-lookbook-front

As we continue to make the slow, hopeful trek toward the warm summer weather, New York-based label 3sixteen, like much of the fashion world, is looking well beyond into the fall. We’ve previously shown you a video 3sixteen put together while shooting their Fall 2009 Lookbook around the city, and now they have provided a preview of results. Featuring an array of smart, heavy-duty outerwear, denim, shirts and accessories, the look is clean and classic, with enough understated design detail to keep the clothing up to date. A gray shawl-neck pullover with a wood toggle-fastening stands out, echoing the collection’s own wool duffle coat. For those of you already dreading the inevitable segue from August to September, at least you will have this to look forward to.
