satyenkumar-autumn-2009-main1

After a four season stint working at Versace, British designer Satynekumar Patel introduced his first solo line, under the self-named label Satynekumar, with an autumn / winter 2006 collection. With clothing described as an eccentric “combination of tailored casualwear fused with tuxedo style dressing,” Patel saw immediate success. Satynekumar’s autumn/winter 2009 collection continues down the path of eccentricity. Eye-popping fabrics, graphic tops, gloves, and pleated pants that show plenty of ankle round-out this collection. Items available at Oki-ni and Daniel Jenkins.

Lanvin Party Campaign

Parisian fashion house Lanvin has partnered once again with Swedish firm Acne – this time for an ad campaign. Acne Paper’s summer issue launch party, held at the Ritz Bar in Paris, turned into a fashion shoot when Lanvin’s Lucas Ossendrijver and Alber Elbaz decided to use the event as the setting for their new fall/winter 2009 ad campaign. The glamorous setting of the Ritz Bar, the burlesque performers in attendance, and the party guests made for interesting background elements as photographer Andreas Larsson captured images of models wearing Lanvin’s latest clothes.

ShoFolk Armstrong

shofolk-armstrong-main

After launching clothing brand Folk in 2001, designer Cathal McAteer created a sister line of footwear three years later called Shofolk. Starting with a simple mocassin, the line has expanded today to include sandals, boots, sneakers and hybrids designs, like this model from the popular Armstrong series. This shoe, like all of Shofolk’s wares, is handcrafted in Portugal from raw leathers. With its cushioned sole and mid-ankle height, it combines elements of a Chukka boot and a classic high-top with more refined features. The contrasting color scheme and suede backstay add a bit of flash. Shofolk’s Armstrong line retails between £120 and £140. For online purchase, visit the Folk website.

When No One Wants to Look Like a Banker – NYT Editorial

nyt-dress-codes-banker-main

Hard as it may be to believe, there was a time when Wall Streeters dictated what it meant to dress with success. As the recession turns social norms on its head, the power suits of yesteryear seem not only dated, but almost vulgar in the face of widespread economic panic. Luckily, the fluctuating Dow Jones does not signal an end to style as we know it, but rather a tweak to office attire. The Style section of the New York Times offers a portfolio of looks for the current working man, with a shift from the standard gray or navy jacket and tie to a more versatile wardrobe for the “creative professional.” Without sacrificing professionalism, the editorial suggests replacing the time-tested two-piece with Phinaes Cole cardigans or Idol Radec vests, or daring Dolce & Gabanna pinstripe blazers paired with Rag & Bone chinos. Sartorial risk takers may also want to dabble in the electric Antonio Azzuolo cotton sport coat or Alexander Olch linen bow tie. Whatever your taste, the new rules for dressing for the workplace are considerably more lax than ever before. Consider your horizons broadened. Read the rest at NYT.

Victronix Swiss Army – AirBoss

victronix-boss

Victorinox Swiss Army first introduced the AirBoss collection in 2003. Described as rugged yet sophisticated, the timepiece is indeed visually striking. The watches’ name is in reference to the flight-deck boss on an aircraft carrier. Charged with overseeing all that happens on a flight deck, from take-offs to landings and everything in between, the “Air Boss” needs to keep precise timing. Victorinox Swiss Army’s AirBoss features the precision Swiss movements that the company is known for – so you know it will keep time – plus it looks good too. The timepiece features an easy to read black dial, and leather straps with contrasting stitching. The latest additions to the collection are the Limited Edition Mach 6 Power Gauge and the Mach VI. The Mach 6 Power Gauge is a beast of a watch created to celebrate the collection’s 5th anniversary – only 333 of these watches will be produced.

Blank Magazine – Sleek Ideas Editorial

sleek-main

Blank Magazine hands the spotlight to the Ralph Lauren Spring 2009 menswear collection in its #38 issue, showcasing just why the label has been such an enduring force in fashion. “Sleek Ideas” consists of six different looks of head-to-toe Ralph Lauren on model Brian Davenport, shot by photographer Pieter Henket. The collection is what the label does best: timeless pieces with a preppy bent, like a tennis sweater and blue pinstripe pants. This season, orange fits in prominently, on chinos embellished with a crest, cable-knit sweaters and dress shirts. Combined with the turquoise backdrop and slick “Mad Men” hair, the feel is retro cool. Davenport also made that issue’s cover, in a navy spring coat. For information on where to buy (hint: everywhere), see the Ralph Lauren site.
