Not shying away from expressing pure functionality in their clothing, COMUNE’s spring/summer 2012 collection is full of sharp pieces that don’t disappoint, highlighted through this excellent (although slightly forboding) video. Rugged lace boots dominate the footwear, topped off by some simple tops in the form of a crew neck heather grey number and the essential hot weather garment, the tank top. The denim slim denim jacket is also a standout piece, dark in its color but light enough to provide the perfect outerwear for a brisk spring morning or chilly summer night. COMUNE’s garments are made to work well, but are also made to look great in the process.

The models for the Fall/Winter 2012 collection of Marc Jacobs‘ Marc line might as well have marched down the runway at NYFW considering the strong military influence on almost all of pieces. Standard issue military dress hats in a variety of hues adorn quite a few of the outfits, adding a slight bit of formality to otherwise non-traditional looks. An impressive showing of topcoats was also present, ranging from furry to shiny, layered over equally flashy tartan pants. With such exciting adjectives, there is no doubt that this collection moves out of the normal range of description into something truely otherwordly – but in a good way.

The legendary house of Balmain has launched an epyonomous collection for Spring/Summer 2012, aiming to capture the elusive concept of “downtown coolness.” Focusing on working with designs scaled down to fit into the ever changing landscape of “coolness,” the collection falls hard for classic leather and denim, even bringing the two together in a denim/leather jacket that seems both sleek and functional after the initial astonishment has worn off. Shorts, falling slightly above the knee, make an impressive statement on the collection as well, adding to the overall casual comfort combined with high fashion feeling that the pieces evoke. Both boat shoes and metallic high tops make for some interesting additions on the footwear end, contributing both prep and sparkle to pieces put together in a meticulous manner, creating a unique end result still worthy of at least a little bit of “coolness.”

Vintage pieces fight for dominance with bright modern colors in Michael Bastian’s fall/winter 2012 campaign, leaving only one clear victor: truly unequivocal style. Standouts include the impressive mix and match style suiting that range from pinstripes for the boardroom to lavender, khaki and navy for just about everything else. Expertly tailored pants round out both the boldly patterned shirts and ties and canine themed sweaters (just take a look for yourself) that populate the top half of these looks. With just a tiny bit of added flair in a classic pair of aviator shades, all of these diverse pieces from Bastian blend together impressively.

Menswear duo Timo Weiland kept things relatively minimal for their fall/winter 2012 collection. We say relatively due to the presence of an outrageous floral ensemble at the beginning of the collection, but the moment is fleeting – the line moves on to feature a variety of simple and solid pieces including clean cut collared shirts, slim forest green slacks and a crew neck sweater with some subtle stripes. The double dipped fuscia/black shirt shines as an excellent blend of classic and forward thinking styles, putting bright hues at the forefront of standard styling. Sharp tailoring runs throughout, creating a collection that is both cohesive and diverse.

Amidst our hectic schedules, LOVE day is always special. It’s the day that the world celebrates LOVE in gamut ways. Jet-setting to a tropical island, having dinner at one of the excellent hotspots in the city or prepping a lovely meal at home. One surely wants to make VDay memorable.

Of course, we as fashionistas- we know that we ought to dress up for this annual “love-bugged” rendezvous. I’m sure most of you got the threads down but just in case you need a little help, here are some trending items to make you feel officially dressed for LOVE… Who knows, these may end up on the floor later this evening anyway.

Looking to the colorful past of America’s wild, wild west for his inspiration, Band of Outsider’s Scott Sternberg put together a fall/winter 2012 collection as powerful as the notorious gun-slingers who made their claims to fame in lawless country. Sternberg’s looks aren’t nearly as out of control, however, relying on some classic sportswear pieces in some decidedly dessert hues. Alpaca sweaters under camel blazers kept things nice and warm without getting too hot, aided by the most diverse collection of scarves known to man: ranging from down filled neck warmers to tassel ended colorful strips of fabric. Topped off by a floppy piece of headwear, these looks stay within the practical workwear confines of the American west while added just a hint of modern tailoring and color for kicks.

Literature can often seep into other facets of society, but it’s rare that menswear and the written word mix together. Bucking the trend with great pride is Honduran designer Carlos Campos, whose fall/winter 2012 collection uses Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera for its muse. Deliciously rich blocks of autumn colors (certainly featuring the one and only hue of love) give Campos’ collection an impressive and clean cut look. Things here are minimal, but all while evoking a simply beautiful aesthetic that thrives on the juxtaposition of colors and fabrics that can only elicit the feeling he was trying to capture: love.

Born in Francavilla, Italy, Lucio Antonucci discovered his talents for hat making at an early stage in his life. After graduating from college with a degree in communications and graphic design, Lucio landed one of his first jobs as a photographer for a company that produced hats. While standing behind the lens, Lucio’s creativity was always in full swing. He admits to coming up with different designs, ways of enhancing the hats he was shooting from the moment he began working. All of his bottled up creativity finally came to the forefront and Lucio eventually became the company’s lead designer. After a successful 10 year stint with the company and numerous runway shows under his belt, Lucio decided to start his own company and in 1988 he opened his very own atelier.

Lucio continued to learn the art of hat making as his company was growing. In the early 90′s, he began to learn the trade from some experienced female hat makers. With this newfound tutelage, he expanded on his own designs and creations, becoming interested in creating hats that maintained a balance between a formal and modern structure. Lucio is a real inspiration and hopefully our photo diary captures his talent as well as his passion for hat making.
