The new video from UK Band Foals is for their new song, Spanish Sahara. The single is from their new Album titled Total Life Forever, which will be releasing this coming May. The album is a follow up to their critically acclaimed Antitodes, which was released in 2008. Spanish Sahara is the first video and single for 2010.

London based Swedish singer Erik Hassle is currently the new face for Martyn Bal’s current Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Erik Hassle was just awarded the prize for “Newcomer of the Year 2009″ at the P3 Guld gala this past January and is fast rising as one of the most notable up and coming artist in the industry. Currently signed with Island Records and Universal Republic, look to Erik Hassle to come out with a new album this year.

Our favorite Ivy-Leaguers are back and looking to avoid the sophomore slump that has plagued so many other bands. Vampire Weekend, however, seems impervious to damage with Contra, as they take their upper west side soweto to another level with their second album. Toting their dictionaries along with their collection of madras, the Columbia grads have assembled yet another energetic indie-rock album that boasts a unique collaboration of sounds and instruments; their Paul Simon 2.0 sound will truly make you wish it were summer already. Buy it on vinyl and be sure not to skip ‘White Sky, their second track on the album.

With a voice that is always syrupy and sultry, Sade returns with a familiar sound that lets us fall in love with her all over again. Sade has been gone a long time, and while her absence (9 years) have always left some of us going back to her old classics, it definitely feels as though she has never left. Her new single “Soldier of Love” seems like an extension of the songs from her old albums. With it’s parade type drums and sensual horns, Sade swims over the track in her own familiar hauntingly beautiful way. Take a listen and welcome back the Queen.

This is Vampire Weekend’s follow-up single to “Morchata” and their debut video off of their forthcoming album, Contra. It’s feverish-paced, almost surf rock-inspired music, and the video matches that electricity. The band members are captured on a steady-cam as they zip up and down a single track in a city alley. It’s a wonderful and simple conceit which heightens the effects of the song. Contra is due for worldwide release on January 11th, 2010. Enjoy the clip after the jump.

Havana Cultura is a new double album from acclaimed musical tastemaker Gilles Peterson. Havana Cultura blends jazz, mambo, salsa, hip-hop and gives the contemporary Cuban music scene a platform to feature some of it’s new up and coming artist. “Green Eyed Love” is the downbeat closer from Michigan soul singer Mayer Hawthorne, off of his debut LP, A Strange Arrangement on Stones Throw Records. On first blush its lyrics seem to suggest he’s got a thing with a tempestuous, ill-advised green-eyed girlfriend. Not your average look for soul-rooted music, coming from somebody who’s not your average look for a soul-rooted artist. Yet still a great sound for the nostalgic sound admirer in all of us.
