Filmed using only a Cannon EOS C300 Camera, the short film “Mobius” packs in all the action of a summer blockbuster into the frame of an eleven and a half minute film. The story centers on a photojournalist, who in pursuit of the perfect photo of a drug cartel is spotted and in the eyes of the cartel, must be captured and killed.

Directed by Vincent Laforet “Mobius” is a must see for any film fan who enjoys action, thrills and interestingly ambiguous endings.

Although the physically punishing nature of boxing and the physically graceful nature of modeling don’t usually mix, English boxer slash model Dudley O’Shaughnessy seems to have the extremely high level of intensity of maintain excellence in both fields. After following his father and brother into the ring at age nine, O’Shaughnessy quickly rose through the ranks to become the senior Amateur Boxing Association welterweight champion last year. But O’Shaughnessy doesn’t only put on the gloves, actively modeling and starring in short films, including Rhianna’s newest track “We Found Love.” In this short film from photographer Sharif Hamza, O’Shaughnessy ruthlessly pummels the bag in his trademark sleek style while the powerful and abrasive sounds of his fury provide a beatdown for the ears. It wouldn’t be a good idea to get in Dudley O’Shaughnessy’s way, either on the runway or in the ring.

Olivia Thirlby has been most notable for her roles as a sidekick (See Juno) or the object of teen affection (See The Wackness and Snow Angels). Brooklyn Magazine caught up with the starlet to discuss her roles in the recently-released sci-fi horror, The Darkest Hour, and the upcoming, drama, Being Flynn – as the adaption of Another Bullshit Night in Suck City – which are two different characters in two different genres. Thirlby has found great satisfaction from her introduction into theater performance with the Atlantic Theater Company and her part-time studies at the College of the Atlantic. The interesting concept behind the interview is how the landscape of her former NYC dwelling (She has lived in Williamsburg and the East Village) has informed so much of her characters. She is now an LA transplant, for which she believes is a good release, claiming that her lifelong residence in NYC had “an overwhelming familiarity that is almost unpleasant.” See the entire interview at Brooklyn Magazine.

Right in time for a more lighthearted time of year comes “Home for the Holidays” from filmmaker Christian Sorenson Hansen, an elegant depiction of a normal day in the life of the owner of a bowling alley. As the man’s day progresses, his mood becomes more and more upbeat, even as the tasks on his to-do list seemingly become more and more mundane. Shot with an undeniable eye for the beauty in everyday life, Hansen’s film feels as real as a scripted short can feel, emotions so close to home that they’re hard not to feel. Soundtracked by a song of the same name from The Wheeler Brothers, “Home for the Holidays” elicits a slight smile for many reasons, and it most certainly deserves it.

Inspiration can be tricky: one moment it’s there, taking hold of your entire being; the next moment it disappears, leaving you wrought in agony. But to pick the brain of those who have it can be an incredible experience, such as the one chronicled in the film “Yohji Yamamoto: This is My Dream” which follows the legendary Japanese fashion designer of the same name. Pictured in his trademark black, Yamamoto discusses his passion for clothing, and most specifically its cut, along with his harshest critic: himself. The film also dives into his industry-shaking collaboration with Adidas. This intimate portrait the fashion icon promises to offer some insight into the mind of a true genius.

The trailer doesn’t give much information about what this tattoo documentary about. All we know is that the subject matter is tattoo as high art and the human body being a canvas for it. But with such names such as Damien Hirst and Jeff Koons attached to the project. This is definitely a must see.

Ryan Hope’s debut film, Skin, is a documentary that tests the boundaries of art and the human body, Skin is a dark, stylish examination of tattoo culture as high art. Featuring contributions from Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Raymond Pettibon and in association with Dasha Zhukova’s Garage Magazine, the film is a beautiful visual essay from the frontiers of contemporary British art.

When you think of the greatest, most respected actors alive, Anthony Hopkins is at or near the top of that list. Only a very select few could have turned 16 minutes of screen time into one of cinema’s most iconic and influential characters: Hannibal Lecter. It’s an absolute testament to Hopkins’ ability.

When he speaks, people listen. Such was the case when he was took a few questions from online interview magazine, The Talks. The interview is mostly a reminiscence for Hopkins. Still going strong at age 73, it’s most likely the prime of his acting career is over. Although, he isn’t stopping anytime soon. Hopkins says it is through acting that he is able to stay young. If he stops being creative, that’s when the slow process of death begins. He even says, “Mortality is the great rescuer,” because it doesn’t allow anyone to know exactly where their life is going. It’s all just one big adventure, essentially. You can certainly expect someone like Hopkins to take every minute of his life and make the most of it. Just look at what the man can do with 16 minutes.

No one can argue that motorcycles aren’t cool: there is far too much evidence to prove that barreling down an open highway while straddling a substantial amount of horsepower absolutely oozes testosterone. But if you need more proof, you can add Machine, a new short film by Matthew Harrington to the list. Following DIY bike maker “Matt Machine”, the film shows the process of constructing an entirely custom motorcycle by hand, and the speed-filled joy rides through open country that follow.

The film displays some exceptional imagery, juxtaposing shots of Machine in action in his dimly lit and cluttered workshop with him tearing up asphalt on his bikes through the countryside. But if the scenery doesn’t get you, the sound will, creating a collage of the metal on metal of tools in the shop with the not so subtle roar of the engine that seems to drown out every other sound that the world has ever produced, which isn’t a bad thing.

Head over to his Vimeo page to watch more videos of sheer badassery from Matt Machine, but for now enjoy his latest installment of Machine below.
