The New AC Cobra MkVI

gullwing-main

AC is set to build the new Cobra MK VI in Germany, at Gullwing GmbH, which gives a clue to the car’s unique feature – a removable hard top with gullwing doors. The car will be crafted by hand, with a body constructed partly in aluminum and will be placed over a triangulated jig welded spaceframe chassis. There will only be one powerplant available, a Corvette 6.2 liter V8 unit that produces 437 hp for the GT and 647 hp for the GTS version. Talk about a beast? How about 0-62 in 3.3 seconds. 2009 Acura ZDX Concept

acura-zdx_concept_2009_main

The newest Acura concept was recently revealed at the 2009 New York Auto Show. The ZDX concept is a mixture of a sports coupe and a sports-utility vehicle. It is being dubbed as a “luxury performance coupe-plus,” thus creating a new segment in the auto market. This sporty ride features a sloping fastback roof, tinted glass surface, and very unique light features. It was designed by Michelle Christensen, who wanted the “ZDX’s exterior to draw you into a rich interior.” Acura also points that the ZDX concept uses an all-aluminum V-6 with VTEC, a new six-speed automatic, and the brand’s trademark SH-AWD system.

Although it’s New York’s turn to show us some new machines to drool over, we still have a few stragglers from Geneva we’d like to show you. Dacia’s Duster is the brand’s first concept car with designs that can be attributed to the Renault Design Central Europe in Bucharest, Romania, and Renault Design Techno-centre in Guyancourt, France. The sporty compact design gives this SUV a really active look. It’s double side doors is a unique feature, as well as its rear design and lights.

Corvette Z03 by UgurSahinDesign

corvette-z03-main

UgurSahinDesign recently partnered with tuner Mallett Cars to finally bring the beautifully designed Corvette Z03 to life. Tweaks for the Z03 were made to increase engine cooling and improve downforce. To fit its see-through hood concept, its headlights were redesigned for a better fit. As for the engine, the base will be a supercharged version of GM’s LS7 V8 that pumps out 700hp. However, there’s also an optional engine upgrade to 999 hp with your very own twin turbos. Making modifications like this will surely be costly, so definitely be ready to see the numbers go up to six figures for a truly rare Vette.

Melkus RS2000

melkus-rs2000-main

Melkus was a marque of single seat racing cars and sport cars founded by the race driver Heinz Melkus in Dresden in East Germany. The company existed between 1959 and 1986. The cars used engines from Wartburgs and much of the other parts came from Wartburgs and Trabants. The racing cars competed in Formula III, Formula Junior and Formula E. The only road going car the company produced was the Melkus RS1000. It was a sleek sports car powered by a tuned mid-mounted Wartburg 3-cylinder 2-stroke engine.

Melkus is due to release their RS 2000 sports car that will go on sale in November with annual production limited to 25 units. This new edition will have an aerodynamic body which draws inspiration from the classic Melkus RS 1000. Like the RS1000, the new RS 2000 features gullwing doors which have been specially engineered to swing out only a few centimeters to enable entry and exit in tight spaces. To reduce drag and improve downforce, Melkus RS2000 will sport a completely closed underbody, a large front lip spoiler, and a rear diffuser. Designed by Lutz Fügener and Jens Timmich, this new model follows the lightweight philosophy launched by company founder Heinz Melkus. The RS 2000 weighs less than 1,000 pounds (454kg) thanks to the aluminum chassis which is wrapped in a body constructed from carbon fiber. More info and images after the jump.

Geely Tiger GT Concept

geely-tiger-main

Geely is a relative newcomer to the automobile industry having begun production only in 1998. Their GT was unveiled at last year’s Beiging Auto Show and it made a big impression at that venue. Not bad for a company that got its start in manufacturing refrigerators. The GT is returning this year to capitalize on that well-received publicity. This large 2-door coupe features styling that Geely hopes will set it apart from its Chinese rivals.

The dropped front snout of the car features a split grille that has holes rather than traditional slats or mesh. The headlamps are nestled in fenders defined by sharp character lines that sweep upward and then back down into the doors. The rear haunches have a similar curve to them with large taillamps that come to a point just above the center line of the rear wheels. The greenhouse features two small rear quarter windows for the rear passengers. The rear-drive Tiger GT is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 producing some 225 bhp and 340 lb.-ft. of torque.

Trek Soho

trek-soho-bike-main

Trek’s engineers have incorporated a seemingly endless list of features that make the Soho model an ideal candidate for commuter/city bike enthusiasts. The Soho utilizes a belt-drive with internal 8-speed gearing on the rear that makes maintenance and cleaning a snap. There is a thin rubber bumper along the top tube that makes paint dings a thing of the past and helps hold the bike steady when propping it against stuff. And for all modern-day urbanites, there is a matching stainless steel coffee mug. That last bit is deserving of a few chuckles, but the belt-drive idea is truly an amazing concept (although not a completely new one). You can get a Trek Soho at

Caparo’s T1 Race Extreme

caparo-main

Caparo’s T1 model reverts back to its roots by taking its racecar designed machine for the streets back to where it really belongs – the track. The new T1 Race Extreme features a 620bhp 3.5-litre V8, feeding it a top speed of 208mph. It’s time for acceleration goes from zero to 60mph in 2.8 seconds and 0-100mph in 5.8 seconds. Other upgrades include 355m carbon-ceramic brakes, with six-piston callipers at the front and four-piston callipers at the rear. There’s also a way to adjust the aerodynamics and suspension of the ride to make it more compatible in different racing environments and circuits. Tweaks and modification to the engine’s ECU is also a feature in order to adjust throttle response and gear change speeds.
