With technology getting smaller and smaller, sometimes one needs to make an authoritative technological statement. Hense, the Arcade Box by Le Boite Concept. Looking like a cross between a 1950’s stereo box and the first arcade boxes, the Arcade Box is jam-packed with every gadget possible: “custom handmade 100 watts Speakers (+ amplifier), a Mac mini with wireless keyboard and mouse, 22″ LG HD Screen, Ipod/Iphone dock station, and a HD Optoma video projector.” As well, the “Boite Concept” includes a remote control as well as 2 extra drawers to plug in gaming systems.

It would appear that the chess set holds the same appeal to industrial designers that wine bottles have on graphic designers–they can’t resist designing another iteration. But seemingly the most popular and esteemed abstract take on the chess set is the version master craftsman Josef Hartwig, of the Bauhaus wood-carving workshop, created in 1924. Made of maple wood, his set is a standard of Bauhaus design– cubes, cylinders, and balls which are not arbitrarily applied to their respective pieces, but actually reflect their movements. Although still in its early development, a lot of buzz has been surrounding Ian Dallas’s new video game concept called “The Unfinished Swan.” The game is basically set in a black and white world where you have to splatter paint to see where you’re going. The game is very maze like, with challenging obstacles around every corner. Watch out for its release around March of 2009.
