Joe Pirela’s design studio Blue Ant recently helped to build the Haack House, yet another noteworthy addition to the studios rapidly growing cliental. Similar to many other forms of modern architecture, the Haack House focuses on using rectangles and squares as the primary forms of design, instead of using more traditional forms of architectural design. Built with the finest wood and the highest quality of other building materials, the Haack House is another product the Blue Ant can be proud to show.

For the minimalist home owner with a keen sense of style and minimalism comes the Vipp kitchen, a game changer for the prolific Danish company. In the past, Vipp was known for its niche products for kitchens and bathrooms but with the release of the Vipp kitchen, their product line has seen a major evolution from the products that helped to start the company back in 1939 when the original Vipp bucket was first released. With beautiful cupboards and a unique sink, the Vipp kitchen is a great step forward for this Danish company.

For most people, furniture is meant to be a comfortable piece to help tie a room together and be comfortable at the same. For some people however, your average type of furniture, a dining room chair for example, just isn’t enough.

The Octopus Chair created by Maximo Riera turns the concept of the typical dining room chair on its head. With a piece like this in your home, it would be hard for guests to say that your house kept the status quo.

The chairs are hand built and remain in limited supply.

It takes quite a bit for a residence to stand out in an overcrowded mega-city such as Singapore, but the 36 BTrd house from DP Architect is able to break the mold with a casual natured infused flair. Wedged in between two pre-existing buildings, the house makes excellent use of its otherwise cramped three story space, using wide open spaces and large windows to keep the place from feeling like a coffin. A vertical set of metal shades occupies the facade, bringing in the sunshine without completely letting go of privacy. But the best part – a simply integrated roof terrace that would be perfect for hosting guests on beautiful Southest Asian night.

Working with 2,874 square feet of space the Whim Architecture recently introduced the Villa BH in the Netherlands. Built with glass walls, the house skews privacy for a more controlled sense of visibility in order to led the home harness a greater amount of natural lighting.

The house also comes with solar panels, further making the home an environmentalist dream. If that wasn’t enough, a stunning garden house is also included with the house, showing that beautiful homes don’t have to hurt the planet. They can help it.

Part functional mini home, as well as a shed and a sculpture, the ‘Poplar Garden House’ is located close to the city centre of Groningen in the allotment gardens of Tuinwijck. Tuinwijck is a green oasis that offers the inhabitants of the city a low-budget possibility to create the most eccentric gardens.

The Poplar House’s lot is a sunny one, situated between the playground (South) and the ditch (North). These two different orientations were the reason Onix designed two different outside areas. One is an introvert space, in the shadow of the apple trees, orientated on the ditch, and the other, is an extrovert space on the creek garden and the playground. The condition of the soil (which is boulder clay) was the reason to choose for a creek garden.

Onix have given their garden house a saddle roof, which is one of the types that you see a lot at Tuinwijck, the other type is the pent roof.

The volume has been formed so that the house embraces the two outside areas. The house is completely formed by one plank size and is made from poplar wood, and the window stills are made from planks as well as the foundation.

Open space reigns supreme in this new innovative office space created by Tokyo based Yoritaka Hayashi Architechts, giving this space for an advertising agency a decisively fresh but not entirely sterile feeling. Giant swaths of window provide for an abundance of natural light to seep into the space, with its harshness minimized by a delicate shade of white applied to most of the walls and ceiling. Translucent shelves and tables open up the space even further, turning what would have been a cramped office corridor into a breeding ground for excellent creativity.
