Read’s Clothing Project comes from Read Wall whose partnership with Books for Africa has allowed him to mix his philanthropic ideals with his passion for making clothes. For every purchase, the Read Clothing Project gives a book to a child in need of education, “providing tools of empowerment to the next generation of parents, teachers, and leaders in Africa.” With a Fall 2011 release of American preppy styles, Read’s Clothing Project now hopes to make a substantial contribution to the educational efforts in Africa.

One thing that I’m proud of in being a staff/contributor here at

swipelife is that we all are out for extending our knowledge &

resources to our family, friends & all of you -our readers.

In times of challenges, we are one in supporting various charities to

get things done, making this world a better place to live, love and

laugh.

As a registered UNICEF volunteer, I am extending you this great

opportunity to celebrate accessibility to clean water & raise funds

for those children that do not have that luxury.

This year, all funds of the UNICEF Tap Project are supporting water,

sanitation and hygiene programs in Central African Republic, Togo and

Vietnam.

Just $1 can provide a child clean water for 40 days…

So, please join us on Thursday, March 24 for a night of drinks, hors

d’oeuvres, and dancing at Katra Lounge. Limited number of tickets are

available for purchase at uniceftapprojectnyc.com

Tickets are now available for the 2011 UNICEF Tap Project – New York

City event! Hope to see you there!

As for the recent catastrophy in Japan, let’s take action and help the children that

have seen their world washed away. Unicef is thinking of them around the clock.

Due to the unprecendented nature of this disaster, the organization is sending funds

to Japan to help children who have survived this epic disaster cope with the crisis

ahead.

Help children in Japan: Donate to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s emergency appeal for the children affected by the quake and tsunami.

For 60 years, the people of Japan have given generously to UNICEF, so that less

fortunate children around the world had a brighter future. Today, the children of

Japan need our help. It is a privilege to show them the same generosity and

empathy.

A fashionista will always be a fashionista. Being invited to fashion shows is indeed such a treat but real life runways give me a bit more “WOW” that there is really life beyond a fashion statement.

Alina Villasante’s work cought my attention at a recent trip. Not only her slogans such as “ love is not something you look for… love is something you become!” but her fashion brand, peace love world captivated my attention. Although the designer creates eyecatching designs for the whole family, she makes rugged, comfort and elegance fit for the male globe trotters as well.

I picked up a couple of her designs. The feel of the fabric feels so soft against my skin- it was wicked! I also got several thumbs up at a recent night out in New York City. Although sporting slogans may seem elementary at times, we can get away expressing ourselves and how we feel through our clothes… there’s freedom of speech anyway.

What gives a better feeling is to know that a brand like this gives something back to the community and to the rest of the world. The organization is active with relief, i am hope, peace for tots and don’t text and drive projects. Throughout 2011, Peace Love World will give a new tee to a child in need in places like Haiti and America’s shelters- the buy one, give one project. For more information, log on to their website at www.peaceloveworld.com .

As for the spring and summer 2011 check out this video shoot and perhaps you would realize that these are indeed “ the clothes that give you life!” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgQyBopq8uk

It’s indeed a swipelife out there! Every second counts! I’m glad to be a part of this amazing team – always on the go, giving you a swipe of your life.

I hope that I can inspire you through my swipelife blogs to live, love and laugh…

If I’m not on my running kicks during weekends I’m sporting loafers these days – on a family, social event or on a jet plane heading somewhere. Not trying to be a guy’s version of Imelda Marcos, but I just recently added a pair shoes in my collection. It’s a great pair & a must have for this spring & summer 2011! It actually reminds me of the espadrilles yet there’s no need to anticipate that the 80s will call and ask how the kicks are doing. Don’t get me wrong I too sported those in that era.

The comfy pair is TOMS giving shoes! With every purchase, TOMS will give a pair to a child in need. From men’s cordones classic to men’s twill classic you can sport this sole even while shaking some bootay on the soul train!

Check out their men’s vegan classic collection at www.TOMS.com

(the photo is from their official website)

Mark Zuckerberg, the billionaire founder of social network Facebook Inc. has signed onto the Pledge, which asks its signatories to commit publicly to give away the majority of their wealth to charity. The 26-year-old is one of 16 billionaires new to the Pledge, which now totals more than 50 donors.

Mr. Zuckerberg, who founded Facebook in his Harvard University dorm before dropping out of college and working on the business full time in California, is one of the world’s youngest billionaires, worth an estimated $6.9 billion, according to Forbes. Yet since his wealth is from his ownership stake a company that has yet to list on the stock market, much of that wealth is theoretical at this point. Regardless of what that number may be, and whether or not you think this Pledge is only Billionaire Public Relations, it is pretty amazing an individual at such a young age would join such a worthy cause. Kudos to you Mark!

141′s concept is simple: when you buy one pair of glasses, a second pair will be given to someone who really needs them. One for one for a good cause. The company takes cues from companies like TOMS Shoes, who also gives a pair of footwear to those in need when consumers purchase one. The company comes from Kyle Yamaguchi and Shu-Chu Wu, whose Portland-based company was founded in May of 2009. As for the glasses, the models are very current in terms of design. With different silhouettes and colors such as noir, wood, and olive, 141 offers an array of styles that should satisfy both the fashion and the socially conscious.

Founded in 2007, 46NYC is an apparel company that designs and manufactures its own line of t-shirts to raise money and awareness for numerous worthy causes. Created by three easy-going, t-shirt loving kind of guys (Graham, Hal and John), 46NYC grew from their mutual dream to take a love for casual fashion and design, and combine it with a desire to help those in need. 46NYC has built solid partnerships with numerous worthwhile children’s charitable organizations, including ALSF, while creating t-shirts that are durable, high-quality, comfortable and stylish. www.46NYC.com

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). 2010 marks 10 years since 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $30 million towards fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 125 research projects nationally.
