Falling Whistles

fallingwhistlesfront

When Sean Carasso visited the Congo on service trips for Invisible Children and TOMS (the charitable shoe company) he witnessed the horror of imprisoned children. The children, escaped from fighting for rebel forces, were now being held captive, and tortured, by government soldiers. That night Sean wrote an impassioned entry into his journal, which he later sent to friends, that included descriptions of the children being forced to the frontlines of war, armed with nothing but a whistle. Wrote Sean, “With Falling Whistles, their only choice is to feign death or face it.”

When friends began to ask what they could do to help, Sean and a partner formed Falling Whistles, an organization whose profits in the sale of symbolic whistles goes to “restoring the lives of war-effected children in the Democratic Republic of Congo.” To join their efforts, one can order a whistle from fallingwhistle.com.

ARK (Acts of Random Kindness) Clothing

The novel and movie “Pay it Forward” features a nobel concept, do a favor for someone, and in return they must also perform a favor for another person. The creator of ARK (Act of Random Kindness) Cameron, has a similar philosophy, every time you wear a piece of ARK clothing you have to perform one act of random kindness. Buy someone a coffee, give up your seat on the bus, help a drunk home are just a few examples Cameron gives on the company website. Purchase a shirt and join the ARK movement by heading over to their webshop.

KIVA

Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website that allows people from anywhere to loan money to entrepreneurs in developing countries. Micro-lending is a great concept because it helps people build the proper capital to start or grow their business. Most of the time, meager start ups such as someone’s small tailoring business, bakery, or spare parts operation fail because they lack the necessary monetary funds to move forward. As a way to help better the situations of these individuals, Kiva has set up this loan program. You can use either paypal or credit card, and Kiva will pass the funds to the selected person you want to help. Loan teams can also be built in order to loan more money to others.

Barack Obama Victory Speech Video

It was a historic moment last night as Barack Obama became our 44th President of the United States. The campaign was fought hard by both candidates, but America proved their choice to be Obama. As President-Elect, Obama stood at Grant Park in Chicago in front of 125,000 people and delivered a very inspiring victory speech for all of America.

“If there is anyone out there who doubts that America is a place where anything is possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer,” Obama declared.

McCain’s Consession speech was also gracious as he addressed his followers and congratulated Barack Obama. Regardless of the loss, McCain made a call to come together and bridge the separations and put aside differences. With his utmost love for this country, McCain declared his great support for his new president Barack Obama. McCain Consession speech after the jump.
