Derringer Cycles

Adrian Van Anz’s vision of a commuter bike that embodied elegant and classic design came to fruition when he started up Derringer Cycles – named after the pocket size old pistol. His bikes fuse classic motorcyle design with a standard bicycle. There are some old-fashioned details such as the leather bicycle seat that play up the vintage appeal. The bike features a 4-stroke Honda engine and can achieve speeds up to 40 mph (see specifications after jump). Placed orders take up to a month, and the cost tops $3,000 US for many of their models.

Vampire Weekend “Cousins” Music Video

cousins-main

This is Vampire Weekend’s follow-up single to “Morchata” and their debut video off of their forthcoming album, Contra. It’s feverish-paced, almost surf rock-inspired music, and the video matches that electricity. The band members are captured on a steady-cam as they zip up and down a single track in a city alley. It’s a wonderful and simple conceit which heightens the effects of the song. Contra is due for worldwide release on January 11th, 2010. Enjoy the clip after the jump.

Photographer Michael Lavine traversed the Pacific Northwest to uncover the “Grunge” movement that dominated the first half of the 90s. In his second published book, “Grunge,” Lavine teams up with Sonic Youth front man, Thurston Moore, to detail their involvement in this phenomena/lifestyle that surged into mainstream cultures, but then fizzled out as the backlash of its popularity created a resentment by many of the participating artists. It’s a full spectrum of the era with intimate portraits captured by Lavine and personal testimonial from Moore that will make “Grunge” an intriguing read.

The latest items that have been released conglomerate to an artisan-inspired look which includes very relaxed fitting and longer bottoms and tops. There may be some getting used to over time, but the looks are striking nontheless – even if the garments are solid colored or feature minimal patterns. Yamamoto’s designs have always been renowned to push lines or step out of them.
