McQ by Alexander McQueen – Fall 2009 Lookbook

Alexander-McQueen-Fall-2009-1

McQ by Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2009 lookbook is serious fashion that doesn’t take itself too seriously. McQueen has a deft hand at transforming otherwise basics into bold must have garments and for Fall 2009 the label tries to throw a little tongue in cheek humor in the mix as well. The model overuses the ankles turned inward Sid Vicious pose a little bit but we get the gist. Punk rock rebellion at the art school is the order of the day. A few cool motorcycle cut jackets, a checkered blazer with matching belt, and a ridiculous parka make this a collection worth noting this year.

Red Collar Project – Spring/Summer 2010 – Great Expectations

red-collar-project-spring-summer-2010-main

Swedish label Red Collar Project raises the stakes for Spring 2010 by lifting their inspiration from Charles Dickens’ classic novel “Great Expectations”. For those unfamiliar with the story is of a lackadaisical orphan raised in the country by his abusive sister and her spouse until he is offered riches by an anonymous benefactor so long as he moves to London at once. He does so and has to adjust and adapt to the life of a wealthy gentleman. How does Red Collar Project use the narrative as creative fodder? Check out these looks where dapper conservatism meets color and youthful spirit with a cohesiveness that not many companies can pull off. The looks are dandy but still masculine, flamboyant but firmly rooted in classic mens styles.

H&M E-commerce Campaign Images

hm-campaign-main

H&M has released a campaign with Andres Segura and Ryan Thomas for the upcoming season on the e-commerce portion of their website. Clearly aiming for a more mature, 25-30 something market, the looks are toned down but still trendy and modern. The models wear the clothes well, and it should be interesting to see where H&M will take this new direction.

Tattooed Love Boys Editorial from Blackbook

tattooed-love-boys-editorial-blackbook-main

A recent editorial in the September issue of Black Book is definitely worth flipping to (or clicking to) if you have a thing for ink or are just simply fascinated with the art form. Styled by Chris Benns and with Pieter Henket behind the camera, Dan Felton of Red makes a photo novella out of tattooed models Aram Gevorgyan and Douglas Nietzke. Not just the pastime of criminals and sailors like our grandparents were brought up to understand, the tattoo is a full blown modern phenomenon. We even see NYPD with spiderwebs on their elbows these days. Good looks!

Calvin Klein CK – Autumn/Winter 2009

calvin-klein-ck-autumn-winter-2009-main

William Eustace and Sigrid Agren for Calvin Klein CK’s autumn and winter 2009 campaign bring some seriously mysterious flair to the photography this year. The looks are cold, dark, and viciously modern. Devoid of color except for splashes of red, the untethered futurism bares its fangs and barks a caveat. The looks are gorgeous as ever, only with the danger ante’d up. Enjoy.

Zara – Autumn/Winter 2009 Trend Lookbook

zara-lookbook-main

Zara’s Autumn and Winter Lookbook is testing the limits of just how much swagger can be safely contained in one look. They chose a good model this time as well to showcase a collection of classic styles with of course a 2009 re-up. Overcoats and billowy scarves are in tow, as well as your essential shawl collar sweater and a very detailed denim button-up. Zara gives a man the freedom to keep to it low key or just get flamboyant. Versatility is everything.

Clement Chabernaud – Pantone Camel – Details Editorial

The Fashionisto points us to the September issue of Details magazine. In the issue, Clement Chabernaud shows a variety of different styles and garments limited to the color palette of Pantone camel. Styled by Mattias Karlsson and photographed by Kacper Kaspryzk, the looks flesh out of a lot of possibility even when working within one specific color. The Givenchy, Emporio Armani, and Bottega Veneta looks are the standouts. A very useful spread no doubt in the latest issue of Details.

Creep by Hiroshi Awai Herringbone Vest and Pants

creep-by-hiroshi-awai-vest-pants-main

Menswear designers continue to draw inspiration from the manly archetypes of years bygone, and the Creep line by Hiroshi Awai is no exception. The first garment is a classic charcoal herringbone vest with a cream back and wood buttons. The vest is a versatile addition to anyone’s wardrobe that can make a t-shirt stand out in a crowd if worn right. This Creep vest with a blazer or even by itself is a hot item. And throw in the charcoal hunter style herringbone pants also by Creep with wooden buttons, tapered at the calf and the woodsman inspiration thing really starts to make sense. The silhouette is unbeatable, and of course if your footwear is on point so are you. Watch out for more Creep in posts to come I’m sure. Vest and Pants available at BlackBird.

Camilla Norrback – Men’s Collection Debut

camilla-norrback-main

Camilla Norback debuts her eco-friendly menswear line with two points in mind. Price conscious fashion and filling the gap for organic men’s clothing in a market right now where t-shirts and denim are the norm. The looks are decent and if modestly priced could prove competitive in a post UNIQLO basic menswear market. The jackets and pants look good and the shirts fit well. We look forward to seeing where Norback’s menswear line goes as it grows and expands.
