When people think about concept cars, they get excited because they are looking into the future. But at the recent 2014 Detroit Auto Show, Toyota’s FT-1 Concept gave everyone a glimpse of the future, and possibly the past.
Toyota’s “Future Toyota 1”, or FT-1, was designed with the blessing of President and CEO Akio Toyoda, who tasked the Calty Design Research team with designing a car for Toyota’s customers rather than its stakeholders. The work is a vision into the future with an eye to the past. The Supra was an iconic sports car developed by Toyota from 1978 to 2002 and the end of its run saddened many of Toyota’s customers. The FT-1 has brought hope to those people, as it has been hinted as the new Supra. With similar lines and features to the last Supra, the FT-1 certainly looks like a rebirth of the car Toyota’s customers have longed for. What do you think?
