Neil Barrett drew inspiration from post-war abstract impressionist painter, Mark Rothko for his Fall/Winter 2014 presentation. These ideas are translated in the two-tone color scheme on the pants and outerwear which is indicative of Rothko’s sombre paintings. Attendees saw the color story transition from brown to black. The outerwear made the strongest statements with the use of the ombre color schemes and clever mixed media details: belted wool topcoats, awesome leather motojackets, hooded wool overcoats, quilted leather, leather strap toggles. The other bold statement throughout the show was the inclusion of lightning bolt graphics on the knitwear and blazers. It was a fun, contrasting element that really took from what otherwise may have been a moody presentation.
