Hardy Amies designer, Mehmet Ali researched the archives and drew inspiration from noneother than Edwin Hardy Amies himself. Amies’ services were called upon in World War II, and his return from the war, having been stationed in Belgium, saw his promising fashion career take off in storied Saville Row. This collection pays homage to Amies’ military and Saville Row backgrounds. Ali’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection combined all of the traditional pieces from the 50’s era and incorporated the slender fits of modern-era Saville Row. The outerwear shapes took most from the military styles, but there were more modern materials. The pattern work on the suiting is familiar but the color combinations of rust orange, coral, soft teals, and grey all ushered the traditional into modern territory.
