Jonathan Segal envisioned the Cresta Residence to seamlessly combine indoor and outdoor living space. As much was focussed on the minimal and contemporary lines of the household structure, the outdoor grounds mimicked this aesthetic. The tall window panels stretch from floor to ceiling on multiple levels of the home. The ground level has a system of sliding doors which integrate the spaces. Light is not an issue for this residence, but it can also be filtered by simply drawing the curtains closed. This San Diego plot is a staggering 5,300 square feet in total. What already seems large is in fact, still small relative to surrounding neighbors’ plots. The “moat” they have is a very interesting feature. It’s bringing in another natural, softening element to what is mostly concrete and glass.
