We’ve all heard of our cell phones being able to do everything for us, but did you ever think you could create 3D models with it? Well now you can with a new app from ETH Zurich.
The scientists from ETH Zurich’s Computer Vision and Geometry Lab have created an app that takes advantage of our cell phones’ capabilities to allow us to 3D scan anything, from objects to people. By simply moving the phone around the chosen object, you can capture every angle of the object and create a 3D model right on your phone. This is a big step because now you don’t need the usual complicated setups for 3D scanning and you can scan in a variety of settings. In addition, the 3D models can be saved so you can study them later, or even be used as a blueprint for 3D printing. So if you’re looking to go from 2D to 3D, check out ETH Zurich’s new app that can run on a wide variety of current smartphones.
