Are men the new women? It seems to be the case since tons of blogs, magazines and forums on the internet are asking the same question. Hell, you know it’s an issue if women are finding the time to go on Yahoo Answers to start question threads like, Why are men becoming less masculine? Why are men becoming more feminine? Or, are men becoming less manly?
Women should legitimately be concerned. Sure, today’s definition of masculinity varies by perspective, but for the most part men just aren’t what they used to be, not like the olden days. For some women, their definition of a man is someone possibly like their dad. Someone who was probably in the military service. He’s tough, assertive, and didn’t take crap from anyone. When things broke, he fixed it with tools he’s collected over the years. His favorite food is probably a large rare steak. He drank beer like a champ and cursed like he was always at a baseball game. However, at the core of his being, he’s all things righteous, and he’d protect his family to the death. I’m sure there are guys still out there like that, but not like her dad.
Whatever the case maybe. Us men are losing our primal edge. Blame it on our upbringing, reality television, mens fashion blogs/magazines, idolizing Ryan Gossling, the school system, the environment, rap music, etc. I’m sure its a mixture of them all, but let’s face it, men have ultimately gone soft. We’ve become more concerned about our appearance, rather than actually rolling our sleeves and getting shit done. We’ve become overly sensitive. We buy too much shit we don’t need, and we try too hard to make sure everything is perfect. Damn, this is starting to sound like Tyler Durden in Fight Club. But yes, think of it that way because Fight Club is actually a good example. To quote the movie, “You are not your fucking khakis.”
