The Belle Game is an orchestral, dark-pop band hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia. Their latest music video for “River” comes off of their first full-length album, Ritual Tradition Habit (released April 2013 by Boompa Records). What’s alluring about this video is how director Kheaven Lewandowski conveys the story of a modern-day Japanese gigolo. I was fascinated by this story when I came across it not too long ago. It seems like a phenomenon growing in Japanese contemporary society as more professional women are seeking out adult male entertainment and escort services. It’s apparently a successful business model in Japan’s metropolitan areas. I digress though. The hauntingly beautiful song is an excellent backdrop for the male Japanese heroine who escapes a perceived, shallow life and finds redemption. I, however, think his job was incredible, and he’s going to miss it. And his incredible hairdo.
