Gentle clatters of a drum machine-electric piano combo back up Ware’s vocals as it takes a turn toward early ‘90s R&B. Emphatic beats are kept at the forefront, which sets up not only the fluid, swaying pace, but also the tone: sensual, emotional, with a hint of foreboding. The song’s lyrics go well with the ambiance, as the singer struggles to reject her lover’s seductive ways, despite knowing that’s the right thing to do. Whether the lyrics are metaphors of her own life, her idea of staying honest and transparent in her songs is what dubs her as one of the best new artists yet.
