China and USA have constantly been battling for the top spot in medal count in these Olympic Games. The competition has been quite fierce. But when you take a look at weightlifting Olympic winners Lu Xiaojun, Li Xueying, and Wu Jingbiao, you’ve got to give them credit for all the skill and talent they have provided for China. After all, their nation was the former host of the Olympic Games. Four gold and two silver medals…can’t help but wonder how they got so good. Photographer Noah Sheldon gained access to the secretive National Sports Training Center in Beijing and got an inside look of what goes on behind the scenes for these intense athletes. He witnessed first-hand the Chinese Olympic weightlifting team’s daily routines leading up to the London 2012 Games. World Champion Wu Jingbiao may have failed his final lift in the 56 kg divison to come second, but Wang Mingjuan pulled through to take the title in the women’s 48 kg competition. What’s more is that you see a sprinter turned Olympian like Lu Xiaojun to take the Olympic crown and break the world record in the men’s 77 kg competition. But the nation’s medal haul isn’t over yet, with much more to come from the nation’s greatest athletes.
