The xx liberate their second single from their upcoming second album, Coexist, with “Chained.” The song is moody and evocative – the type that drew most people to the group’s debut, in the first place. It showcases an adept ear for melody as vocalists Romy Madley-Croft and Oliver Sim painfully intertwine their voices. Ethereal synths and hollow drum sequences will eventually take you somewhere where serenity can and will be found. The music flows through Croft’s ambient guitar lines and Smith’s woozing samples to create a lush, atmospheric backdrop. This London-based indie pop outfit fails to disappoint, once again.
