Imagination certainly seems to run wild in the mind of London-based artist Yinka Shonibare, as do his sculptural variants of the so called revolution kid on display at Art Basel 2012. With the heads of a wolf and a calf, Shonibare’s sculptures are meant to depict the timeliness and particularities of a youthful rebellion. The interesting mix of colors and textiles suggest a depiction of the postcolonial relationship between Africa and Europe by highlighting the economic disparity between the two continents while speaking to the youths of both regions as the tools of emancipation, violence, and globalization are displayed in the hands of each figure.
