Ok, ok – we all know that the adage “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” is incredibly, incredibly trite, but in the case of Swedish guitar aficionados The Hives, it’s incredibly, incredibly true. Their newest album, Lex Hives, due out June 5 and streaming now over at The New Yorker website, is a veritable tidal wave of crunchy guitars and uptempo beats, bring the energy the group established when they broke onto the scene well over ten years ago. For some bands, a natural evolution of sounds signals a group’s timelessness. But The Hives do something different – they create a sound so powerful and repeatable that you can’t get it out of your head.
Lex Hives is out June 5 on The Hives’ own record label, Disques Hives.
