There’s no doubt that in the mythology of American film, director Nicholas Ray’s iconic teenage anthem, “Rebel Without a Cause” holds a spot amongst the titans on its own. And with the multiple legends surrounding the film’s production, including the death of James Dean, James Franco and a crew of all-star artists including Harmony Korine, the McCarthy brothers and Aaron Young created a multimedia installation of epic proportions encompassing almost every aspect of the 1955 film milestone, albeit with a modern twist. Part one of filmmaker Matt Young’s chronicle of the group and their work explores the beginnings of the idea and how Franco and Co. hope to make it as cutting edge as the original film.
