It takes extraordinary vision to imagine a house from the ground up, but it could possibly be even harder to re-imagine a house that already exists, especially one described as a “little loser of a house.” But architect Brian White took his love for painting and applied it to redesigning the house that he and his wife bought in a Portland suburb, coming up with a stacked and open design that turned this loser into an outright champion. By placing a modernized box on top of the existing house, White was able to add an extra 900 square feet to the space, all with the help of Portland constructors Urban Design Build Company, who, up to that point, had only worked on remodeling kitchens. The went beyond expectations, while Brian’s eye for natural light placed a variety of windows primed for the beautiful view into their backyard, which also happens to be nature preserve. White’s house is just proof that little creativity and one extreme makeover can take a living space to new heights, in this case literally.
