The summer of 2012 is already shaping up to be a ridiculous summer for film: The Avengers drops this week, while heavy hitters The Dark Knight Rises and Prometheus wait patiently in the wings for their chance to steal the box office spotlight. How could there possibly be room for anything else? But with Tom Hardy (who is already Bane in The Dark Knight Rises), Guy Pearce (who plays a future industrialist in Prometheus) and Jessica Chastain (all around gorgeous woman and wonderful actress), Lawless seems primed to reach the upper echelon of summer flicks.
Set in Depression era deep-south, the movie follows the trio of bootlegging Bondurant brothers as they tiptoe around the edges of the law with the help of a little corn whiskey. The trailer alone sets expectations high, especially when considering who we haven’t even mentioned yet: Gary Oldman (also in The Dark Knight Rises), Shia LeBeouf and a screenplay by old school rocker Nick Cave. Due out August 31st, try not to lose your appetite for Lawless after the fearful armada of other summer films, as this one is sure to please.
