Borrowing some inspiration from boat construction, “Pinch” by Matthias Pliessnig offers a smooth and innovative seating arrangement. Put together from steam bent strips of white oak, the seating item (chair, bench or couch just don’t seem like the right words) draws its name from the pinched sections at each end. The structure is seemingly able to remain light as well as dense, as though it could float like its design inspiration but still hold the weight of the heaviest of men. This hand made item of furniture doesn’t come cheap, however, as each is made to order at the cost of $16,000.
