Even world-renowned (albeit fictional) pong champ Forrest Gump never took the game to level like this: enter the Pingtuated Equilibripong from Akke Functional Art’s Axel Yberg. Constructed from a variety of recclaimed products including plumbing pipes, aircraft wire, and Edison reproduction light bulbs, the table is designed to be easily converted to a dining surface with the removal of the net. This stunning piece of work gets its name from evolutionary biologist Stephen J. Gould, whose theory of Punctuated Equilibrium is one of few to build upon Darwin’s work in the field of evolution. While Darwin describes evolution of species as a slow process, Gould believes it is a result of brief, impressive periods of evolutionary change. There’s no doubt that Yberg’s Pingtuated Equilibripong fits the description: it takes the ball and paddles to a whole other level.
